And then you get penalized/taxed if you can't afford it. That is so horrible, in my opinion. Very saddening/sickening. :(

It's based on how much you earn and what coverage you "should" have. I'm going from memory but one example I read was something like $200/mo per dependent penalty for a family of 4 earning $100k.

The fine amount doesn't even really matter in the concern of it all. If I can't afford health insurance, I can't afford a fine. Most people don't choose to just not have insurance, there is a reason - and the reason is always the cost!

It matters not what he earns in fact if anything it exacerbates my point, imagine if he was on average wages, the facts you spelled out are he had to pay £30k PA!! Thats horrendous bro, and its a.fucking disgrace.

I agree with the OP and I've heard horror stories before of people that can't afford health cover having to have heart bypass surgery and owing more than their homes are even worth.

Sorry but USA health system is world reknown cesspit of money sucking parrasite companies. Yes every country has HC issues, but of the developed world yours is an awful one.

It does matter what he earns; that same coverage for someone earning less would be considerably less.

I'm not saying it's right or acceptable. I think it's an insane amount of money as well.

The issue for me is the government feeling that one, they have the right to mandate I provide healthcare of their approval-while unemployed and illegal immigrants get it free, and TWO thinking they have the authority to levy a fine to me if I don't. I have a basic fundamental right to decide to buy health insurance or not. If I don't I roll the dice and take my chances. But forcing me to buy it or fining me is bullshit, beyond the scope and authority of our government and its going to be a complete clusterfuck. Especially on the employer side of things. Does anyone not see a problem with this?

The government works for the people, the will of the people. Those are the concepts and principles our republic was founded on. The government is not the authority to dictate your rights to you.

*And I too am sorry for posting inappropriately in this thread. With any luck your moving out of the country :)

I argue both of those points til I'm blue in the face. Not because someone is arguing back against me, but because it's just that ludicrous to me. I just don't get it. In addition, am I now supposed to take the "fk it" attitude and just head to the ER whenever I bump my head? I mean, that's what "they" do. They being all of us noninsured scumbags....
