Surely you wouldn't want me to remind you, Officer, that one shouldn't pull into the intersection unless one is committed to making the left turn...

Dear Ms. Camry Driver, it's called taking turns at a stop sign. Look it up sometime. And make up your mind - are you going to turn into the parking lot? Not going to turn?

It's just my work truck, and wheel alignment is overrated anyway. Nothing to see here!

OK, not really an idiot driver this time, but traffic was crawling and we were wondering what the hell was going on, when this happened...

I always have it running. I have it hardwired to the fuse box. Pretty easy to do - I have the dashcam on the windshield and tucked the wire under the header all the way to the passenger side A pillar and down behind the plastic A pillar cover and into the passenger foot well where the fuse box is. A 12V to 5V converter from ebay is about 5 bucks - hook it up and you have a clean install with no visible wires and a dashcam that comes on as soon as the car is on.
The dashcam records 5 minute segments in .MOV format and overwrites the oldest files when the SD card is full, so you can pretty much have 100% guarantee to have any incident recorded as long as you don't let the file get overwritten. A 5 minute segment is about 500MB. I have a 32GB card, so I can hold several hours worth of video on the card.
The model I had hooked up is the B40/A114. It is a generic Chinese dashcam that has pretty good reviews. There's a newer version of this, the B40/A118 that is now available.

Since I took the video, I have changed the dashcam to a mini 0805.

Either one is an excellent choice. The B40 cost me roughly 60 USD. The mini 0805 has higher resolution, GPS, etc. and is a bit more expensive, about 80 USD or so.
Here is a view of the dashcam (on left)... my radar detector is on the right.. :)
