Good interview with Barkley. Really like his point that the cops are the only thing standing in the way of the hoods being the wild wild west.

Holder spoke at a Church in Atlanta a couple days ago.
Holder stated:
"There will be a tendency on the part of some to condemn what we just saw, but we should not," Holder said. "What we saw there was a genuine expression of concern and involvement. And it is through that level of involvement, that level of concern and I hope a level of perseverance and commitment, that change ultimately will come. And so let me be clear, let me be clear, I ain't mad atcha, all right?"
A pastor got jeered for getting up and speaking about the crime/murders that happen everyday in the black community.
This admin has done nothing but increase racial tension.

All this talk about Eric Garner today makes me frustrated that all they supposedly want is a trial. How about all these blacks committing crimes either stop and if they aren't committing a crime then just comply and let it go to trial.
And what's the common denominator in both cases? Resisting arrest.Last edited by TKD; 12-03-14, 06:38 PM.

Makes me sick. What it shows is the callous disregard for human life by people who wield power, especially for someone who has the misfortune of being born of color. Absolutely no reason for the guy to die, especially after he said he couldn't breathe. I am ashamed and infuriated that something like this could happen.
Apart from the racial issue, this is symptomatic of a police culture gone amok, where de-escalation is never the first choice and the situation is rapidly devolved to the deadly force option.

I think both issues need to be kept in the discussion and not just aftermath. It can't be ignored that Garner had 31 prior incidents and Brown attacked a copOriginally posted by Scrumhalf View PostMakes me sick. Garner may not have been a saint in the past, but did he deserve to die for selling cigarettes or whatever he was doing? Not sure how we have got to where we are, but we seem to have a toxic brew of police that is predisposed to using lethal force at the slightest provocation and a district attorney/grand jury system that is happy to look the other way and play along with the cops. The result is a total lack of accountability and the moderating influence that this would provide.

Of course I don't think he should have died. I also don't believe for a moment that the police were trying to kill him. I also don't think the less than 10 seconds of the "choke hold" was the mason reason he died. We all know that if he could say he couldn't breathe that means he could breathe. Maybe just not as well as normal. I believe it was the stress of his own weight on top of him and the addition of the officers having to hold him down because he was resisting arrest. The part no one mentions is he died due to asthma, obesity and heart disease. Again, I can see that some police reform is needed, but we also can't ignore the facts of the case to make Garner a martyr.Originally posted by Scrumhalf View PostGarner may not have been a saint in the past, but did he deserve to die for selling cigarettes or whatever he was doing?
