Life without parole? Not defening what the guy did necessarily, but that's usually reserved for things like premeditated murder and terrorism.
The Justice Dept "wanted to make an example of him." See, that's the problem... Wall Street fat cats who screw millions of people and destroy their life savings are "made examples of" with a 2 year sentence and probation. The system is so screwed up, someone with money and power can get away with anything.

I think that's fair. We mostly think that a horrific crime like murder, should carry a life sentence. When in reality, the punishment handed to him was warranted based on the crime and severity of it. I agree the system is fucked, but then again who are we to say how the system should run "properly"

Don't take this the wrong way but if you read more than just headlines you would understand why the justice department is handling the fifa corruption. Also why the US has the support of most the world on this. Especially Europe and the premier leagues because of Qatar winning the bid for the 2022 cup and therefore moving the time of year for the 2022 world cup.Originally posted by Mr I View PostBasically if you host a site that people sell drugs through the narcs will assume you know and try pin you for life without parole

Despite all the stuff about equality, the founding fathers knew that the vast majority of people are going to be, by definition, average and there are going to be an exceptional few that rise to the top. But if you read their writings, to a man, they believed that in the eyes of the law, every man should be equal regardless of his station in life. Justice was the great leveler, the common yardstick to measure a person, regardless whether he was a prince or a pauper. That was going to be the distinguishing factor of the United States from European states that often were ruled according to the caprices of the nobility.
What we have now is unfortunately a perversion of this ideal, where the rich and mighty can get away with murder, while the common man (see the war on drugs, for example) is subject to an increasingly draconian set of laws.
