^ surprising if true I would expect finds to go the way of tax havens under the radar not through US banks.

Short answer is FBI has more powers.

Because it involves U.S. companies, and banking and financial institutions in the United States. Same reason the British Serious Fraud Office is also investigating, because it involves institutions in the UK. The Swiss Attorney General has also opened a criminal investigation. The FBI is the primary federal law enforcement agency in our country. This is exactly what they do, and are investigating crimes that occurred on U.S. soil if you read up on it. At the same time they arrested the members in Switzerland, they also raided North and Central American football confederation, CONCACAF in Miami. So while their investigation uncovers crimes overseas, their focus is the crimes committed here..bribery, coercion etc.

And I still don't understand why the FBI is handling it. It's very odd. I agree with Vladimir Putin on that.

And US isn't worried about the backlash from soccer higherarchy since it doesn't have much to lose financially there. So they are going after the bribery part. Other countries have to much invested in soccer to risk hurting the sport. It sounds like ultimately the US was looking to host the 2026 world cup, feel they got screwed over on the 2022 cup and obviously the government wants all their money out off that and not being paid under the table.

In regards to Qatar having the 2022 cup, due to the extreme heat it has been moved to November/December. There are so many conflicts with the one mainly being it interrupts the premier leagues season.

The Justice Dept "wanted to make an example of him." See, that's the problem... Wall Street fat cats who screw millions of people and destroy their life savings are "made examples of" with a 2 year sentence and probation. The system is so screwed up, someone with money and power can get away with anything.
He was a terrorist technically the Silk Road had weapons and you could buy hitmen for hire. Effed up site really. He deserves life in prison.
