I was working with their engineers a few weeks ago for lab testing of their 802.11 ac router and compatible wireless bridge and they were consistently passing 800 mbps wireless data streams. Pretty awesome.

Google fiber is 1gb per sec correct? Or is it marketing?

1 gbps. No gimic. There are limitations in terms of how many people can get that speed in an area, if I'm not mistaken.

How reliable are these companies or gadgets to provide top quality TV service? I mean, if they're so good, how come you don't have just about everyone on it and or seeing commercials for it. I'll wait another year or so if I even considered doing something like this. I do hate the fact that I pay near $130 for cable and although I have just about every channel, I don't watch near 5% of the channels I pay for. THAT TO ME is plain stupid, but I also like the fact that I can watch tv at anytime, no download issues, no spam or shit pooping up on my tv, etc...

Industry in transition bro. It's like asking why people were still using cassette tape when cd came out. Why people were still buying cd's when you could download music. Why do people still use the library when they have access to the Internet etc.. You get the point. A transition period takes time. There are many growing pains and things are not perfect by any means. The main disadvantage with watching content via online only is that your content is all over the internet. For example I watch stuff on netflix, PBS.org, torrent, live sport streams, movie streams etc.. its all spread out. with cable or sat you have a simple guide that pulls it all together.

i would say to older folks like yourself who are a little slower then the younger crowd in making a transition, keep cable for now. wait for it to get more streamlined and easier for someone your age to use and then make the switch. :cheese:

Free live HD stream of NFL Network.

Copy and paste this url into the VLC player stream option and select play rather then stream. works like a charm. You can do this for tons of channels. I'll post the url's as they become available.

Cable companies must be shaking in their boots. The thing I do like about cable is you just hit on. With things like Netflix you have to sit there and select something . Sometimes I like the tv on just for background noise.

this is where the live streams come in that I just posted about above with the NFL Network. I will take a live stream for NBC Sports or BBC news etc.. and just let it play in the back round.

OR you could use netflix for this. just let it play family guy or man vs food or whatever on autoplay.

if you decide to do it and your having an issue figuring out how to get something working just post it and I'll post a step by step. i like this kind of shit.

Netflix Reveals Fastest - And Slowest - Video Streaming ISPs - Forbes

My ISP isn't even listed. Small local company but I never have any issues with HD streaming so I'm happy especially considering the price.
