My old Samsung plasma is dying. Here is a few that I have found.

A 55 incher would be perfect, but the thought of a big 65er is tempting. I don't think that I need 4k. We don't watch a ton of tv and should really cancel our cable subscription, but we basically pay for cable to enjoy HBO Go. We only have one TV and I would like this purchase to last a good 7-8 years like my plasma.

You can pay for hbo directly now. You dont need cable to have hbo anymore.

Vizio 4k has very good reviews and are very well priced. Don't trust me, trust the expert reviews and read them.

Yeah at this point I would be hard pressed to go 1080p or less. It is just old tech now. There may not be a ton of 4k content yet but most 4k tvs up convert and you will be future proof. The picture is just too amazing to not get.

Oled is definitely an amazing picture but the thing they aren't talking about is the screen burn in is worse than plasmas. In my experience with oled smartphones after a year and a half it becomes noticeable. I would wait a few years to see how they fare before a purchase myself.

Yeah at this point I would be hard pressed to go 1080p or less. It is just old tech now. There may not be a ton of 4k content yet but most 4k tvs up convert and you will be future proof. The picture is just too amazing to not get.

I think the potential for an amazing picture is there, but 1080p is far from old tech and will most likely rule for many more years. No current game console supports 4k, netflix does, yet most people state that they can't really tell a big difference between the 1080p content vs 4k. I plan to enjoy the new tv for at least 6 years. I'm sure that 4k panels and content will be a realistic option in 2021.

1080p has been around since 1996. And if you haven't seen 4k content on a 4k TV then I would say the same thing but once you see it it is jaw dropping. People would have to be blind as a bat to not see the difference in clarity from even 10ft away. Put into perspective 1080p is a 2 megapixel image at whatever screen size you have. 4k is 8.8 megapixels. Massive difference. But suit yourself brother there is some great deals on large 1080p tvs.

Chuck I get what your saying but its a bit over exaggerated lets be honest. Fox for example only broadcasts in 720p to this day. The other networks are 1080i.

1080p may have technically been around since 1996 but nobody was watching any sort of 1080p content on a regular bases until at least 10 years after that and even that is pushing it.

So yes, 4k is impressive as a demo but it is not mainstream by any means and will not be for a long time.

It's all good. I've been spoiled. Once I've seen it a few times I said there is now way I could go back once they became affordable.

I believe a few of them will up convert even TV broadcast signals to UHD. Not the same as a true feed but better than nothing. I see no harm in waiting a while though. I'm still waiting for my 8 year old turd to crap out before I make the move as well.

BTW what is the deal with network broadcasts being so damn slow to adopt HD anyway? Why the hell are there non HD channels in 2015 when you can't even buy standard def tvs?

BTW turbo I like Samsung's picture and technology but their reliability hasn't been so good lately. Two guys I work with have had major issues within the first year of ownership requiring multiple service visits and replacement. The one guy gave up and took it back to Costco and bought a Sony. My brother has also had rows of pixels go out on his Samsung a couple months after his warranty expired. Make sure you check the reviews real good.

There may be a downside to "up converting" bro. I'm almost positive I had read that when it comes to gaming you want to play on a native display that matches what the console is out putting. In other words a ps4 puts out 1080p native so its best to play on a 1080p display. Something about lag and the fraction of a second it takes to up convert to a 4k tv single. it creates one more step and apparently that extra step can cause a fraction of a second slow down or lag aka choppy frame rate which is the enemy of any video game.

Should be able to turn off post processing for a game console input. Most tvs have a game mode which automatically does this.

So because your friends have had issues with their TV, Samsung is on a down spiral ? I've always loved and will continue with Samsung products. In regards to pic quality or streaming, yes the 4K looks better, period. You certainly do t have to be a tech guy to figure that out either.

Love Samsung too. Typing this on my Galaxy S6 right now. Just saying to look out and check reviews real good first. Anecdotal evidence is still evidence.

Sharp has one of the longest history's of customer satisfaction and record low returns; mine was dead out of the box and has had the screen replaced.

It happens. Samsung makes great TV's no question about it.
