  • Allow me to introduce.. 'Cali' the Amstaff

So about 4 weeks ago I saw a neighbor of mine walking his new Amstaff puppy and he looked a bit in over his head to be honest. I think they got it for the kids but didn't realize how much work was involved especially with a head strong breed like this. Anyway, I mentioned (jokingly) that I would take her. Fast forward a month and I bumped into them again and he looked even more desperate and asked if I'd like to have her, I agreed.

The Boxer doesn't care much for her but he's tolerant. He gives her a good whack every once in awhile and she goes flying but she always comes right back for more. I didn't plan on getting another dog until after my 12 year old Boxer passed but he's still healthy as can be and I figured he could teach the youngster a thing or 2.

She's 12 weeks now and I already love after 1 day. The name Cali obviously represents the recent move and new life.

Thanks guys. Matt she'll be about 65-70 pounds. Similar to Boxer size. I expect she'll look similar to this at adulthood, I'll keep her ears natural though.

I never clipped my dogs ears, I think they look better natural, too much stigma against them when they are clipped. Often times people do not even realize my dog is a Staffordshire Terrier when they see him.

Nice dog. They breed them big over there. My amstaff was about that size fully grown.

They are the best dogs but need discipline.

Enjoy having 2 dogs bro its all the company you need. I love it when its just me and the dogs

I just think it makes them look more aggressive which is not the image I want to portray.

Big dogs to have in an apartment. Guess you probably walk them everyday so they get heaps of exercise.

I grew up with dogs, they are part of who I am. I've had all kinds of dogs including Rottweiler, French Mastiff, Boxer and now an Amstaff. Each breed has there own unique "substance" that gives the particular breed its character. I've only had the Amstaff for 12 hours but I think if I were asked to sum this breed up in one word, it would have to be the word determined. Its on a level I've never experienced in such a young pup. If she gets fixated on something it would take a thermo nuclear explosion to distract her. Its admirable but holy hell is she hard headed. LoL. If they do everything with such determination its easy to see why they can be so dangerous if they are trained to be so.

She looks really big in that pic above. Its deceiving because she's still only half the size of the Boxer. Her paws are slightly bigger though.
