America is unique in many ways though scrum, you know this. While there are many other materialistic 1st world nations, none share the vast size and scope of the US. You cannot compare Britain, or Germany, France etc.. to the US because so many things are different. The ingredients are different thus the end result is different.

it happens everywhere... Granted..we are leading the way if you will.. lets not forget the one in Norway.. Im sure there are many more not listed.

But Bouncer, nobody is suggesting that we ban gun ownership. That's the knee jerk reaction that everyone seems to be having. But isn't it possible to have some rational background check, some kind of waiting period, etc. that would allow responsible gun owners to continue to enjoy gun ownership, but prevent unstable people with mental issues, etc. from being able to carry out these kinds of acts? Is there no middle ground? I find it hard to believe. Why is it that we are unable to have the reasoned conversation to find this middle solution?
I get that America is unique in its history and how it came to be, but in this case American exceptionalism is nothing to be proud of.
And Rip, come on bro.. yes it happens elsewhere too, but it happens about 10 times more here than anywhere else.

Thanks Scrum ^
It really feels like most of you guys continue to blame american society and culture etc etc. There are fucked up people in all countries. If someone who has extreme mental health issues wants to harm other people the easiest possible way to do it is with a gun. Its about access. Notice how alot of these shootings are done by kids/young adults. Give them a pencil for a weapon and see how brave they are. We had mass shootings here as well before the gun laws came in. Google Port Arthur etc. Guns laws came in and things got better. Thats just a plain fact. It's not even up for debate.
To keep blaming American society is total ignorance when there is clear evidence that guns laws in other countries have made a positive difference. It looks like your current government is slowly starting to realize this. Hopefully they stop fucking around and get it done.

Do a search on how many people follow the gun laws when purchasing a fire arm and commit crimes...compared to the ones that dont...
You wont stop crazy people or criminals from obtaining the means in which they want to do harm.thats just a plain fact. not even about guns.

Thats the American attitude summed up right there. "We are unigue" You all have your heads so far up your own asses you can't even see rationale. What are these differences and how do they affect this issue?Originally posted by Bouncer View PostAmerica is unique in many ways though scrum, you know this. There is.. there are a few loop holes in a few states about gunshows/ and private sales etc.. but you must pass a background check on the FEDERAL level to go and buy a gun at any store/pawn shop etc...period.Originally posted by Bouncer View PostShows how much I know about guns.. It was my understanding that there were already background checks in place?

You're probably right. I don't know enough about guns or gun laws to make a strong argument. I'm not a gun owner and never really paid much attention to it so I should probably stfu in this Argument. lolOriginally posted by redback View PostThats the American attitude summed up right there. There are a lot of loopholes. Especially in Florida. I can open Facebook right now search for a "swap shop" in any local area and find countless deals on guns; pistol, rifle, semi, shotgun, etc. No paper trail just cash in hand and walk away. Though it's nice for the honest and responsible gun owners, it's far too easy for individuals of questionable intentions and/or mental stability to obtain these firearms.

Well at the very least I would say we need to close the loopholes and private sale laws etc..Originally posted by lipripper View PostThere is.. there are a few loop holes in a few states about gunshows/ and private sales etc.. but you must pass a background check on the FEDERAL level to go and buy a gun at any store/pawn shop etc...period.
Wont stop things but it should at least be law wouldn't you agree?

It's a complete joke. Start by limiting the access to the crazies.Originally posted by blm View PostThere are a lot of loopholes. Especially in Florida. Funny..here where I hunt On Ft Stewart, Its an Army Base that the public is allowed to hunt on when woods arent being used for training. its one of the only Army bases open to public hunting in America. A few years ago, they required all hunters to register their weapons they would hunt with on the instalation...guess what..the number of hunters dropped by almost 50%
because IMHO 2 main things..
1, people didnt want to register so the goverment had a record of the firearm,
2, a lot were convicted felons..IE drunk driver, domestic violence etc and legally cant own a firearm, so they get them thru want ads or someone else buys it for them..which is a felony in its self..
This goes to show just how many people own guns in this country that they dont want the goverment to know of..and its just one little place for hunting...not any thing illeagle...so just think of all the criminals who intend to rob, gang bang etc and the numbers of guns out there. Its really mind boggling and why I feel you should have one ..or more and be able to use them for yourself to protect you yours and your property.
Just like FB was saying about her girl and school with pepper spray...why didnt someone jump up and stop this guy with the pepper spray? I mean what / how are honest good people supposed to protect themselfs in everyday life? They follow the rules and laws that are what I call (feel good laws) and I have to say are made with good intentions..but they really just allow the people they are designed to protect..to be victims.
it just sucks to be honest..but it is the reality of it.

Simple;Originally posted by Scrumhalf View PostThe rest of the world wonders how a nation that can land a man on the moon and create a microchip with a billion transistors can't seem to figure out how to put in sensible legislation to have background checks, etc. to keep guns out of the hands of those who are unstable. It simply boggles the mind.
