Private prisons are one of the most cynical and perverse developments. The two big private prison companies actively lobby and find efforts to pass strict sentencing laws, especially in the WOD, and to defeat efforts to decriminalize drug use. It is truly grotesque.

Good point Stan. Never thought of it that way. Pretty scary when #1 source of revenue is prison.
Pretty safe to say they do not want crime to stop..

This is spot on. The privatization of the prison system has made incarcerating people a business and a moneymaking proposition. There is a county near me where the #1 source of revenue in the county isnt wal mart or costco or restaurant chains, it the prison. Now you tell me what happens in a situation where the prison becomes your #1 source of revenue. Corruption to follow asap, and thats what has happened there. Its a freaking disgrace.Originally posted by Turbo3000 View PostIncrease the sentencing? I see that working for sure. The justice and prison system is a joke. Guys selling cocaine are in jail longer than child molesters. Our prisons are revolving doors and the prison system is getting rich off the taxpayer. It is a joke.
As far as the guns topic, making guns more difficult to get legally will simply mean that the criminals will be well armed with any weapon they wish and the law abiding citizens will not be able to get the guns they would/may need to protect themselves from criminals. Gun control doesnt work, we should know this by now.

And how do you enforce these laws on the criminals?? You think they will turn their guns in and won't be able to have access to them on the black market??

Of the guy was truly a non criminal with no signs of mental health issue then there is nothing that could ever be done and no law that could have prevented him from going postal. Any person can snap but most people on the planet recognize the consequence of that . I suspect there were some people close to him were worried he would do something and they didn't say anything. People really need to take threats seriously especially on social media and amongst friends and family. The authorities need to do better at investigating this as well.
As for mental health in general the attitude of mental treatment in the country needs to change. Many people suffer from problems yet it is always looked down on for seeking treatment. "Send him to the loony bin" has a negative stigma. Perhaps people should be more accepting of treatment instead of trying to get others from getting treatment. The whole mental health system is neglected and needs an overhaul. As it sits now a lot of people get medication but avoid talking to professionals when it should be the other way around imo.

I've never seen rape glorified.Originally posted by Bouncer View PostSometimes you make a good argument bro, when you do I read it carefully and I'm willing to understand and possibly agree with your point.
This post however is not one of them.
Rape and terrorism are also in movies and music. Do you suggest actually being a rapist or terrorist isn't a problem? Your point is ridiculous.
Violence is glorified everyday and then it happens and we sit back and start talking about guns and mental health. These murderers are given celebrity status. One of the main problems is the media.
Above you mentioned a doctor panel discussing mental health and hopefully eliminating bias, yet the other day you are making fun of a group of physicians trying to call attention to violence in video games. Most professional groups are self serving.

So every person that wants to buy a gun has to go in front of a jury??Originally posted by Bouncer View PostMaybe a psychiatric evaluation by a group of physiologist to avoid bias? The group would be like a jury with different views and opinions that have to come to some consensus. That's my bright idea.
