Kinda goes with the the argument that heavy weight isn't always needed to build muscle. Hell the sprinters and gymnasts appear to have far more actual muscle mass compared to these "Olympic lifters"..
I was thinking the same thing. Lifting insanely heavy weights to build muscle - bro science. Also look at the average powerlifter. The sprinters look the best aesthetically. Marathon runners, the worst.
Saw this yesterday. It would be so awesome to see an average person next to these athletes. Even the last place athlete in every event would blow the average joe away.

And here are the gymnasts:
the question is, would Ronnie, Dorian, Ramy look the same without heavy weights. I'm no so sure. i think there is a balance. you have to lift a certain amount of weight to cause muscle stimulation but without going past that limit where you just start destroying joints.
Good story on Christian Taylor, the triple jump gold medalist from this morning. Guy changes his takeoff leg after a knee injury. How in hell does one do that? Just think about it! Amazing.
On your point scrum, watching the olympics while injured myself has been kind of helpful. You;d think it would be depressing watching all these amazing athletes while I sit at injured and not about to do exactly what I want at the moment. But it's been just the opposite. Seeing so many athletes that have had all kinds of injuries overcome and compete at that level has been a huge inspiration for me. Sometimes when your injured and kinda low mentally you can start to feel like your the only one in the world going through such a situation. It's a good reminder that injuries and pains do happen and they can be fixed if your smart and listen to your body.
Kerri Walsh Jennings for example has had 5 shoulder surgeries and 2 back surgeries. Insane.
Croatia, Serbia and Montenegro are 3 of the 4 semifinalists in water polo. Damn.. if Yugoslavia were still a country, they would probably be beating everyone else by 20 goals.
I just like the fact that all the people around the world calling us a fat, dieing, empire full of idiots have to continually listen to our anthem over and over.
There is sort brutal truth to the Olympics that kinda fly's in the face of all who doubt us. We are still very simply... The best!
