  • Lasik Eye Surgery

I go tomorrow for a consultation to see if this is something that I would be a candidate for. My whole life my left eye has been super weak. My right eye has always been perfect 20/20. When I was a kid I actually had to wear a patch on my strong eye trying to forcemy left eye to get stronger. That didnt last long. I had glasses as a kid but never wore them because I didnt like the way I looked in glasses and my vision was fine because my strong eye was doing all the work.

Getting older and the strain I put on my eyes in my line of work my good eye is starting to get bad. A few years ago I went and got glasses but my brain was so used to only using my right eye, when the glasses cleared everything and both eyes wear being used it made me very nauseous. They said it would get better but I couldn't take it and took the glasses off!

So after looking for what seems to he the best doctor around I picked one and I'm going tomorrow morning. I've heard good and bad reviews on laser surgery. Some say its the best thing they ever done and other say they've had to go back a couple times for touch ups or still hve to wear glasses.

Anybody here have any experience with this???

What if it corrects your vision like the glasses did and you get the same nausea but this time you can't simply take the glasses off? Lol

On a serious note it worked perfectly for a buddy I had back in Chicago. Said the first week after the operation kinda sucked but after that no regrets.

It's come a long way. These days, you can pretty much do it with very little risk. Look for the best guy in your area though. Ask around and see who has the most experience, the best reviews, etc. I've been meaning to do it myself - plan to upgrade my vision plan this November so that it pays for more of the procedure and then do it next year.

They told me my vision wasn't nearly bad enough for the lasik. I think it has to be poor. Like scrum said its come a long way and its fairly common.

I am worried about that! I'm gonna ask them about that for sure. But if it does happen, I'll have to suck it up....lol Or just keep one eye closed all the time. :)

I got 2 buds that have had it done in the last few years. They are both very happy with the results. Good luck with it if you choose to go for it.

The consultation went well. I go next Thursday and have the procedure done. I'm pretty excited! Its a little more money than I was expecting but something like your vison is worth it in my opinion. $3800 for both eyes...

Why do they need to do both eyes Frank?

Well my "good eye" isn't 20/20 anymore. So they are going to make that one perfect 20/20 so I can use it for things close up. Then my bad eye will be used for things further away. They said the bad eye will be like 20/25 which is a huge improvement.

Be careful with the whole one eye for close-up, one for faraway stuff. One person at work did that and he regrets it. Says if he had to do it over, he'll do the same for both eyes. YMMV, but do some research online on that.

If I dont do one for close up and one for distance I'll have to wear reading glasses. They put these lenes on my and it kinda showed me what to expect. I had to hold everything like a full arm length away to read it. So when they adjusted the lens to show me how it would be with one for ner and one for far, I was able to bring the paper I was reading from alot closer. Carrying mail I need to be able to see about 14 inches away from my face.

I'm getting excited! The doctor is one of the top doctors in the area. They use this machine called a "wavescan" or something. There are some videos on youtube you can check out. The thought of them doing all this stuff to my eyeball freaks me out a little.

Keep us posted frank. I know a lot of people that went and got it down. Nothing but good things. The doctor that did Tiger Woods's eyes resides here in Maryland and his practice is 30min away. I'm saving up to get it done
