Lunch today was incredible at a restaurant next to a canal.

Ordered an eggplant parmagiana and it was spectacular. Never had mozzarella this good.

                does it feel "touristy"?

for example their are parts of Manhattan or any city that only tourist eat at. people that live there know the real
food spots. go to the real spots!

This thread has inspired me to travel more often. I can't read any of the food's names or landmarks without a stereotypical Italian accent in my head! Lol

Yeah, the area around Piazza San Marco is pretty touristy, but once you get away from there, you get into these little alleyways in the city that look like it might as well be 1517 instead of 2017.

The gondola ride is a total tourist trap though. 100 euro for a half hour for 4 people. Total ripoff but you gotta do it at least once in Venice.

Driving back to the Alps this morning. We've seen most of the important sights but probably a third of everything worth seeing. One thing that struck me was the sheer audacity of the whole thing. This place is like freaking Waterworld. You've got to boat in every last tomato for the restaurants, every little supply. Gotta be ridiculously impractical. That sorta gives the whole place a Disneyland feel.

interesting point. imagine when it was all done with sails or rowing before the combustion engine came along. seems like a place that was doomed to fail yet it was once a world leader in trade and commerce.

Just drove back to our village in the Alps. It was about a 4 hour drive from Venice.

The autostrade are great to drive on. Very well maintained and easy to navigate. Signage could be better though - exits were marked only at the last km or so and I would have messed up more than once without Google maps warning me of upcoming exits to take. They are also freaking expensive. We drove about 250km on the autostrade out of our total 350km drive and paid a toll of €20. Crazy.

Bouncer, we drove by the Ferrari museum but I didn't have time to stop and check it out! I know you'll be disappointed in me! But I did see a couple of Ferraris on the autostrada. Damn things whizzed by at twice my speed and I was going the speed limit of 130 kmph.

Lots of little BMW and Audi hatchbacks. I wish they would sell them in the US. I'd buy one. If you want a little performance car, you are spoiled for choices here. I saw lots of European cars. Of course there were lots of Fords, Focus and Fiestas mostly. But I was surprised to see a whole bunch of Jeeps. They looked like Cherokees although they were called something else. There were more of those than any other large SUV I saw, which kinda surprised me.
