Military spending is incredibly inefficient though Chuck. Shit just goes missing, Pentagon losses a cool billion here and billion there and they simply say "we can't account for the missing funds".

Then you have a poor country in comparison like Russia who comes out with something like the new Satan 2 and renders all our defense meaningless.

You are not answering the point. Why is it that people who constantly complain about government "spending other people's money" (your words) NEVER EVER complain about how our taxpayer dollars are being pissed away in bullshit military spending abroad. How come you guys are so brainwashed that EVERY time some asshole politiciian comes along and says that we need to crank up military spending, every one of you guys waves the flag and say rah, rah.. let's make more tanks and bombs and missiles. Don't worry about educating our children or giving everyone healthcare, let's kill more people abroad.

This is such BS. And you are mixing up several things. There is infrastructure, free education, universal healthcare, and there is student debt. Each one needs to be addressed separately. And the way you do it is to rein in military spending and tax the top earners higher. EVEN MOST PEOPLE IN THE 1% AGREE THAT THEY SHOULD PAY MORE TAXES. It's only a a few like the Kochs who have managed to buy enough politicians to pull off the heist thatis currently being done where money is being siphoned from the middle class straight into the pockets of the 1%.

Every country that we should be comparing ourselves to - European countries, Japan, etc. - basically developed countries, have universal healthcare and free (or very inexpensive) college. It makes so much sense, it's really ridiculous that so many Americans don't get it. Having a healthy, well-educated population that isn't up to its eyeballs in debt IS A GOOD THING!!!

What good is a powerful military if it's purpose is to defend a nation of dumb fucks. We will simply be outsmarted by nations with weaker militaries with more emphasis on education.

I agree with scrum in that education should be a much bigger priority compared to what it is now. That said, a strong military is absolutely essential.

You can have a powerful military, nothing wrong with that, but when your military spending is greater than that of the next 8 nations combined and politicians still cry that we need to crank up military spending, that's when you've got to ask what the fuck is going on. What the fuck are we doing that it requires us to spend that much?

As citizens, we need to be willing to ask these questions and hold our elected representatives accountable. Note, I am not saying Republicans. While the most egregious offenders are Republican politicians like McCain, there are plenty of Dems too that seem to be in the pockets of the military industrial complex.

Not saying the military doesn't waste money. Im all for cutting military spending. But all government wastes money. My point was social programs cost far more than the military and have over promised trillions upon trillions of dollars. Adding anything is no-go for me. Everything needs cuts to get back on track. Once we get ahold of our debt and unfunded liability problem then I'm all for opening up new ideas. Turning this country into Rome's past is not something I'm interested in.

Considering the school? Not surprisingly at all.

Being an Asian male definitely doesn't help.

Too many Asians with perfect SAT scores and great grades applying. Asian male is the worst demographic if you want to do STEM in college. If colleges went purely by merit, 75% of the incoming class would be Asian males.

Colleges look for diversity, so Asian males tend to get disproportionately left out. Not saying right or wrong, just that it's the reality.

Just not sure what race as anything to do with.

I will wait for his response, and yes this is a topic I'd discuss.

I graduated from USF with a 4yr business degree...to put race into question and of all times now? Is silly...maybe when I went to school in the early 90s...but not now

Not true at all. I completely understand the pressure college admissions committees are under. It's a tough job because the number of qualified candidates far outnumber the available seats, often by a factor of 10 or 20. And I completely understand the need for diversity on campus. But I am also not blind to the reality of how hard it is as an Asian male to distinguish oneself from the thousands of other Asian males applying for some of these colleges. It's just the way it is.
