When one says "Americans are being stupid," of course one does not mean all Americans are stupid. It means that the average American's sentiment seems to be increasingly about questioning the refugees when any objective assessment would show that the chance of some crazy terrorist sneaking in as one, at least into the US, is pretty remote.

And yes, as an American on the correct side of this argument, both objectively and morally, I am well within my right to point fingers at my fellow citizens and admonish them for adopting xenophobic attitudes. As it is well within the rights of my fellow citizens to do the same if I were to similarly espouse factually incorrect views.
