I do agree that if you choose to carry a weapon you should be trained on how to use it. Something like a pistol is a lot more complex than a knife. With a pistol you need to understand how to load, unload, safety on, safety off, rack, proper hand and finger technique, ect... A knife is very basic. I would think that almost everyone would have an understanding of how to use it for protection. It's a matter of that person being comfortable with it. If you try to force it upon a person to use for their safety obviously this would not be recommended.

Sabrina has been raised shooting.sibce she was a child. I got her a nice little .380 for her 21st birthday and paid for her carry permit. She's 26 now n still packing...she's also been thru basic training with her stint in the Army so she's had some other fireams training as well. All women should have it...imho. But they need training...not just here take it...now your good

My girl is a girly girl. But that doesn't mean she's better off in a bad situation with absolutely no way to defend herself. She at least has a chance armed with pepper spray and a knife. A better chance at least then nothing at all.

Let me try and explain my way of thinking in a different way.

My girl has zero experience putting out a house fire. She's never used a fire extinguisher in her life. But does that mean we should say "since you have no training in this field, you should not own a fire extinguisher"?

See my basic point?

In some ways a fire extinguisher is more complex then a knife. There are multiple steps and a fire is high stress. A knife on the other hand is very primal. Stabbing objects of some kind have been used by humans for hundreds of thousands of years in self defense. I'm not saying she'd be the best knife fighter on the planet but she could at least do some basic slash and stab movements and have a better chance.

And by the way, it doesn't just have to be about self defense. A knife in the car can be a handy thing. Cutting a seat belt if your in a crash and stuck etc..

But Bouncer, I actually have a co-worker trained in Filipino Knife Fighting, I think it's called Kali or something like that? I've had discussions with him about it and he always talked about Spyderco knives. Not sure if those a legal here in Cali tho.
