why dont you just use an external heat source.as in a hot plate......not as efficient as a immersible element but it will work.....the guys I know do it in a shed and use a propane tank and a portable burner..........I wouldnt leave it unatended in my house anyway........you just have to keep the temp between 173 and 212.....so the alc. will boil out before the water but I'm sure you know that....good luck

well that is how I have been doing, but it is not as easy as it sounds to keep the temp steady when you are doing 15 gallons at a time and if your heat gets over 190 you better recook the whole batch because you will have it watered down. Thanks anyway.:)Originally posted by Racer814

just get one of those electronic timers that hooks up to lights and stuff. . .you will have to watch it the first few times but just time how long it takes to start to cool off and set the switch on and off periods for a little less than that. . .
