  • Just did my first show.

It was a brutal 14 weeks of hell. gotta to thank every body who has offered quality advice on this site to those looking for ideas. I did so much searching and reading on this site and others for pre-contest advice. i didn't place in the top five in the open light-heavyweights (illinois state bodybuilding champs.). I hate to sound cliche but the judging was really biased in favor of the guys who had competed there in the past. lot's of politics. Welcome to bodybuilding i guess. Here's my pic taken after prejudging. I am 24 y/o, 5'10" and weighed right at 198. I don't know my measurements or my BF%. Just did the best i could with what i was given. Thanks everybody!

        You looked freakin' great man!

Bro, hold your head high. Competing is an accomplishment in itself.
The same exact thing happened to me last year at the Arizona State Championships. I came in at 198 @ 5'9" and this was my first contest. Everyone including myself thought I should have been AT LEAST 5th if not 3rd or 4th...I felt like the judges didn't even look twice b/c they didn't recognize me...they almost immediately moved me off to the side on the end, out of the good lighting.
So I'm going back into the same show this year...leaner, tighter, more dry, and bigger...so they better not ignore me this time around!

Just keep at it man, you'll be there next time!

thanks again guys. My routine is simple. everything gets hit once a week. back and traps/ chest and calves/ arms/ quads/ hams and abs/ delts and forearms/ rest. My reps usually fall between 16 and 9 usually to failure. Exercices are often chosen instinctually, mostly free weights. I love getting the pump, but i will go as low as 5 or 5 reps sometimes. My first few years of training really revolved around powerlifting. When I was 18 I won the apf teen national bench press without a bench shirt and state deadlift without a suit. The past couple of years have really been dedicated to improving my shape and size with strrength on the back burner. no bench, squats or deadlifts. This week I start my back to basics with squats and deads. gonna try and put on some size at any expense. still no bench press, I can never get a decent spotter. For my precontest i followed dan duchaine's first three diets in body opus and did the bodyopus diet the final week. i followed his diet loosely though and really adjusted it instinctually for myself. I am quite an endomorph. Again, thanks for all the positivity.

Dude that was a tough show this year. So many competitors. You have to realize that we have a lot of good bodybuilders in this part. I mean If you looked in the crowd you saw 20 guys that were off doing Juniors in June. I mena the guy that one your class is picked to do a killing at the Juniors next month. You look great, and I agree the judging was not the best. My good buddy got raped in the heavys as well.

no doubt illinois has a huge scene, sam urbach was unreal and deserved his win in the light heavies and overall. But it's total bullshit when at least two guys who placed in the top 5 had more fat on their lower abs, back and glutes than i have the offseason. That Joe G guy sucked. He was nowhere near contest shape. Fat as hell, but the judges were all kissing his ass because he is doing jr. nationals in a few weeks. the black guy that finished ahead of me was totally out of shape, but the judges needed to fill their affirmative action quota I guess. He had great arms but his waist was not tight at all and his legs were especially fat with no calves. The super heavies was a joke too. The guy that won that class was staying at chuck sanow's house for 2 weeks before the show. The entire crowd booooed when they anounced the winner in that class. The show was second rate, 1.5 hour late start in the morning and two hours late for the night show. I'll do collegiate nationals or the emerald cup in vegas before i ever come near a sanow or alteri show again.
