  • Weight Gainers

I just wanted to know if it's worth it to use weight gainers if you're looking to gain 20lbs without damaging your body. I'm currently 6' and 160lbs, but I want to be at around 180lbs. I've been using the GNC Pro Performance Mega Mass weight gainer for a few months now and I haven't really gained any pounds. I noticed I gained some fat around my stomach, but that's all. I even divided one full servering into two smaller portions as recommended by one of the GNC employees because I have a crazy metabolism. Basically, I want to know if I should continue using weight gainers in general if I want to gain weight without gaining alot of fat. Maybe I need to try other brands that have a higher protein and carb level, but I'm not sure. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

dude, im around your weight and i know what your saying, i have used GNC weight gainers and, well their not worth what you pay for them, i really dont like GNC products, what you need to do if you wanna gain weight is eat, eat, eat listen to what the guys on this site say, they know what they are talkin about. they told me to eat like 5-6 meals a day, eat every 2-3 hours eat even when your not hungry. trust me, i didnt think it would work, but with working out and eating alot of good meals, you will gain weight, i know i am. i gained 5lbs in like a week.

Would I have to eat a full meal, or could it be like a small sandwitch in between lunch and dinner? I would also like to know if it's ok to eat 5-6 meals a day if I'm only working out 3 days a week. I don't want to gain alot of fat.

Try eating 4 meals a day as a start with a protein shake in between each. Focus in high quality protein foods like tuna, chicken, turkey etc etc. With this method your protein shakes between meals ensures your body is not going without protein for too long, and its good if you can't stomach so much food in one day or haven't the time for meal preparations.

Regarding your qeustion, 5-6 meals per day should be fine providing your eating the right kind of foods. And if you're young with a fast metablosim, you should be able to cheat quite often, just make sure each meal has good amounts of protein....

Xero take your weight and times it by 25. You should eat around 25 calories per pound to illicit quality mass. Given your 160lbs I would say eat around 4,000 calories per day.

I always recommend Cytosport Musclemilk it tastes great and can be found as low at $18 online for 2.5lb tub.
Try doing 3 shakes mixed with 2% milk spread out through the day. Each shake should run you about 700 calories and 50 grams protein. Good luck

Really, if you want to gain weight, my suggestion is take what you are eating now as your set point. Don't try to get too scientific just yet. If you are maintaining your weight with this amount of food and drinks then increase it by 500 cals/day. Make sure they are clean cals and start there. It is really hard to give any concrete advise, not knowing what you are currently eating. Try to make sure that your total cal intake is divided equally with each of your meals. Don't go more than 3 hours without eating. And make sure each meal has a high quality protien source. Drink your meals if you have to but get in the nutrients.

No kidding Yj, My own opinion is stick to food not those shakes...homemade shakes are better then (most) crap you buy off the shelves, and this site give you tons of diff shakes you can make, good luck bud and a good piece of advice listen to the mods on this board they know there s@#t.

I'm answering Xero's question and I get smart comment in return, I have every right to answer anyone that decides to flame me for no reason. It's how long you've been in the game not how many posts you have in a message board that provide your worth, because I really dont give a fuck that it says "Superior Newbie" under your names too NYC/pierced one.

Secondly, I'm in no way suggesting to eat less food, but to add shakes in between meals and eat the same amount of beef, chicken, tuna, eggs, or whatever protein you can find to cram down your gullet. Xero said he got a little fat from GNC's mass gainer, thats why I recommended MuscleMilk. I've been using it for over a year and gained mostly lean mass/no fat because of its lean lipids. Is that a better answer YJ?

This is a bodybuilding forum. I respect mod's cause theyve put their time here, but this isn't a mod dictatorship and I'll defend myself whenever the hell I want to. Now we can all chill the fuck out or you guys can "ban" me for being an asshole, when I'm really not.

(and yes addict I was definetly kidding about Muscletech)
