  • Beer But Chicken

Some recipie my mom's trying tonight. You take a whole chicken season the outside with spices and rub it in. Open a can of beer and take the tab off. My mom also put a little of the same seasonings in the beer. We have a four prong rotisery stand that the can of beer fits snugly in between the prongs. Then the chicken goes over that. Cook on the grill at the low temp for 3 hours.

I will let you know how it tastes later.

I thought the beer was suppose to give it some unique taste, but it wasn't that. It keeps it real most. It was like cutting through warm bread when carving it. Tasted great.

So why use beer, would any liquid do the same thing then? I could imagine using liquids with low vapor pressures that may carry more flavor to give unique flavors.

I couln't tell you. It's just the recipie. It probably was discovered trying to add some flavor, but it just kept it real most.

I have used beer to marinate and cook with (miller lite works best IMO) and it definatly gives it some good flavor. But this just kept it increadably moist.

No football fans? I have made this several times its easy...this is a tailgating classic. The beer keeps it moist and provides some flavor (i.e Hieniken vs. Miller will taste different). You use beer can basically because its a can (provides a nice little stand)...ive heard ppl using soda cans for kids. Speeds up cooking so its a good BBQ item at tailgating.

My recipe (in the beer can):
dump a little of the beer out
              6 garlic cloves
1-2 sprigs of rosemary, or tyme, or a mix of herbs.

              (outside of bird)
*optional -season the outside with salt pepper or cayan pepper or garlic power whatever you like.
Drizzle a little olive oil over the whole thing.
              or
Blend olive oil and rosemary and smear it on the outside.
              or
              nothing
