  • Ketogenic Diet

I need a clarification on a cyclical ketogenic diet (CKD). As I understand there is a carb-loading phase, followed by a carb depletion and ketosis period. The point I am unclear on is whether there is any additional carb consumption around workout times. I assume that the theory is that there is sufficient stored glycogen from the carb loading that there is no need for carbs before but what about post-workout recovery? I appreciate any insight into this.

I'm trying a CKD short-term because I've reached my goal using the tarketed ketogenic diet (TKD) but wanted to see the difference in energy levels and workout performance between the two. Thanks again.

I was wondering the same thing. Anyone have a response?

In short, I believe the answer is that you do not do a standard PWO carb consumption under a CKD. You only consume significant amounts of carbs during the carb-loading phase every 3-5days depending on how you do it.

People still do ketogenic diets? Interesting.

Yes, and they work really well-from personal experience.
Lost about 18lbs in 8weeks and didn't see any decreases in lifting strength. Seemed like positive results from a cutting diet to me.

Oh yea, youre the guy who's also 4% body fat....

Diets resembling the Ultimate Diet are much more advances and their efficacy are far better than anything CKD or Ketogenic diets offer. The Ultimate Diet is geared more towards bodybuilders.

Well, it was actually 4.4% (10% more than 4%) by hydrostatic measurements. If you would like to suggest something more accurate, I'm open to suggestions.
                I'm sorry you're such a skeptic--I lied, I'm not sorry.

I modeled most of my diet off the concepts in the book Ketogenic Diet by Lyle MacDonald while incorporating many of the modifications as suggested for bodybuilders. A bodybuilder could not follow the ketogenic diet designed for the standard person and maintain an intense workout routine without losing significant muscle. I've read both the original Ketogenic Diet and Ultimate Diet 2.0.

A dieting technique created by Dan Duchaine and Lyle McDonald. Carb cycling principles, as well as training principles.

Lyle certainly is a character, lol. I remember many a rant from him on Muscle Fitness Weights board. Must be the water in Austin. LOL.

I hated the keto diet, whenever i loaded my carbs I looked so ridiculously fat the next day... it wasn't really worth it, sure you drop a good amount of BFat, but It healthier to lose weight through cutting carbs and keeping them to a minimal but not eliminating them all together, good luck!
