  • Good roast

I cook a roast in the slow cooker about every two weeks. I usually do a mix of beef broth and french onion soup mix. I also usually eat it using A-1 or some other sauce.

Tried a new thing last night.

Place the following into crock pot:
    1 cup coffee
    1/2 cup water
    1-1 1/2 cup beef broth
    1 onion cut in half
    1 tomato cut in half
    1 can of roasted tomatoes
    1 carrot
    1/2 cup fresh mushrooms
1/2 pack of french onion soup mix
    2 clove garlic whole
1-2 tsb of Texas pete (more if you like)
    White and black pepper
    salt
    paprika

I mixed all of the above in the crock pot and let it stew for about 30-45 minutes.

Heat a skillet with olive oil in it and brown both sides of your roast, should take about 3 minutes.

Then place your roast in the crock pot with all the goodness.

I cooked it on low for 12 hours.

Best roast I have ever made, and it was super tender and flavorful. I didn't have to add any sauce. Served it over white rice.

I couldn't taste any strong coffee flavor in my meat. My friend said he added it to his a few weeks ago, I told him it sounded crazy. I did find on the net where some people make a gravy with the coffee, but they use 6+ cups in their roast mixture. I just needed some more liquid and wanted to use something with flavor instead of water or more broth. Next week I am going to use 2 cups of coffee if I can find a cheap coffee maker by then, mine was leaking and it pissed me off last night so I tossed it.

I measure by sight also, so I kinda estimate the amount of everything I added. It really wouldn't matter though, after 12 hours of cooking it will taste yummy yummy no matter what.

If you want to get the best flavor out of the coffee, just add the appropriate amount of boiling water to coffee and let it sit for 4 minutes, then pour it through a filter.

Sounds really good. I've seen coffee used like this before - even Coke.
