I cook a roast in the slow cooker about every two weeks. I usually do a mix of beef broth and french onion soup mix. I also usually eat it using A-1 or some other sauce.
Tried a new thing last night.
Place the following into crock pot:
1 cup coffee
1/2 cup water
1-1 1/2 cup beef broth
1 onion cut in half
1 tomato cut in half
1 can of roasted tomatoes
1 carrot
1/2 cup fresh mushrooms
1/2 pack of french onion soup mix
2 clove garlic whole
1-2 tsb of Texas pete (more if you like)
White and black pepper
salt
paprika
I mixed all of the above in the crock pot and let it stew for about 30-45 minutes.
Heat a skillet with olive oil in it and brown both sides of your roast, should take about 3 minutes.
Then place your roast in the crock pot with all the goodness.
I cooked it on low for 12 hours.
Best roast I have ever made, and it was super tender and flavorful. I didn't have to add any sauce. Served it over white rice.
