  • Glutamine supplements

I just bought some glutamine to help supplement into my diet. I know that I need to take around 5 grams before and after my workout, correct? Also, should I take it on days when I'm not training.

    Yes to both...

Thanks Jack. I sure wish I would have found this forum when I first started working out. My gains would have probably been double what they are now.

Glutamine is also found in whey protein. I don't see why you would need to take extra.

Protein is also found in whole foods. Should you stop drinking protein shakes? From what I understand, there isn't nearly enough in most protein powders to be of any use.

shakes serve their purpose post workout and as meal replacements.

Well what's wrong with supplementing some glutamine if you aren't getting enough from your protein shakes? What brand of protein do you drink?

How much glutamine is in that? I couldn't find anything on the net related to it.

read the package and i couldn't find it either. It probably doesn't have any or if it does its a trace amount.

Ya, from what I've read the amounts are really low in most protein powders. I went and looked at an old bottle of ON Pro Complex I had and it apparently has 10 grams of glutamine and precursors. So, I guess if you were taking two servings a day of that you would be ok.

Are there any peer-reviewed studies that show that glutamine does anything for general fitness/BB? Everything I have seen involves glutamine for recovery from surgery and burns.

I found some, but they're on my laptop at the house. When I get back home later tonight, I'll see if I can find them and I'll post em. I dunno, just from everything I've read about glutamine, it seems like a good thing to take whether it be for BB or overall health.
