I can't tell you what effect it will have as far as fat loss, but it does have some good effects with insulin sensitivity and general gut health. I use organic, raw unfiltered ACV with the mother.
You can put it on food or drink it, but if you drink it you have to dilute it with water. Don't drink it straight it or it will fuck up your throat. It's also used to remove warts and skin tags. You have jock itch, pour some in a container, then add equal parts water. Shake it up and use a cotton ball to wipe it on the area. Your balls will smell like a bucket of feet, but it cures the jock itch in a day or two.
Every time you use, shake the bottle or the mixture if you added it to a container with water. Shaking it will activate the "mother". LOL.
Bottom line, use it for general health purposes, not fat loss.

So I'm reading about the vinegar and the article that avid posted. Apparently the benefits of Apple Cider Vinegar that have been studied have all been done using basic apple cider vinegar. There is currently no studies proving "the mother" to be superior in its blood sugar benefits over standard apple cider vinegar. Next time I'll go with the regular .99 cent one.
I'm sure the mother one has more anti oxidents but that's not why I'm interested. I'm only interested in the blood sugar benefits which wil result in faster fat loss. That effect can be had with the cheap shit.

...Editor's Note: Johnston's latest research, published in the Annals of Nutrition and Metabolism in January 2010, reinforces previous evidence that the acetic acid in vinegar can indeed reduce postprandial blood sugars. According to Johnston, "Two teaspoons of vinegar effectively reduced PPG (after meal blood sugar). This effect was most pronounced when vinegar was taken with the meal as compared to 5 hours before the meal." Just two teaspoons of vinegar, taken with a meal, may help you keep better blood glucose control.
