  • Addicted to diet coke

Does anyone else have this issue? I'm Starting to think I'm actually addicted to diet coke and crystal light. I use to be able to drink 1 - 2 gallons of water a day until I stared introducing diet coke and crystal light when dieting hard. Now I can't stand plain water. I drink about 5 cans of diet coke and a gallon of water mixed with crystal light, a day. Anyone else abuse this like me? Gonna try Canada dry soda to wean off and get back to plain water.

Diet Snapple for me. I drink gallons of the stuff. But you know what bro? I get results! All these people saying diet drinks prevent fat burning and all this stuff. I live on the stuff and I've been as low as 6% bf so unless I'm special somehow I don't buy it.

Now sofa on the other hand with all that carbonation certainly bloats my stomach so I avoid it. But diet Snapple keeps me sane on strict diet.

B, I agree with you that it doesn't hinder the results when trying to get shredded BUT it's more the long term health issues I was considering......

According to this there really is no solid conclusive evidence that aspartame is as bad as claimed by some people.

Each section has a brief "bottom line" segment. Read those.

            https://authoritynutrition.com/aspartame-good-or-bad/

Certain things we know beyond a shadow of a doubt is bad for us. Too much sugar, processed foods, smoking etc...

Other things have a myth of being bad without conclusive evidence. MSG is a big one. You know MSG has never been proven to be unhealthy? I believe aspartame to be in this category. People simply hear a constant negative connection and pretty soon they believe it as fact because everyone says so. But if you look at what the actual scientific community is saying you get a different answer. I follow the science.

Yeah you can find stuff on either side. Aspartame breaks down and some of it is converted into formaldehyde which is a known carcinogen according to this doctor.

Grilled meat is also a carcinogen...

We need to keep things in context because if we dont we can literally point to a negative health effect of every single thing we do in life. People tend to dwell on something specific and make it much bigger than it really is IMO.

P.S. the day I stop grilling meat is the day I change my name to Nancy and go on an anti steroid crusade...

I'd take burnt grilled meat over formaldehyde any day but I hear you.

See but your focused on something specific and in your mind your body is all the sudden a formaldehyde machine the second you sip some diet tea. I highly doubt it.

Show me the study on that? The actual study of how much formaldehyde is formed and how that compares to other things we consume.

Chuck if protein itself broke down into miniscule amount of formaldehyde would you stop consuming protein? Fish oil has a tiny amount of Mercury which is a poison better give up fish... see what I'm saying?

                          Noted:
The calculated level of formaldehyde exposure is approximately
61.3 mg (milligrams) for every liter of aspartame ingested. That
is over twice the level necessary to cause irreversible genetic
damage in humans and several times the level shown to cause
                          chronic neurological, cardiovascular, musculoskeletal, and
other symptoms in long-term industrial exposure research.

So hold on here. The idea is that aspartame breaks down into methanol which breaks down into formaldehyde.

The thing is Chuck, many natural substances we consume break down into methanol.

That link claims that other natural things that break down into methanol have "protective barriers" but alludes to the fact that somehow the methanol breakdown from aspartame does not have these "protective barriers".

My question for that claim is once again where is the proof? You can't make a claim that the menthol breakdown and conversion to formaldehyde is somehow different from other products we consume without any evidence.

Where is the evidence that shows the breakdown process from aspartame into methanol does not have the same protective barriers that other natural substances do?

Artificial sweeteners and other sugar substitutes - Mayo Clinic

"But according to the National Cancer Institute and other health agencies, there's no sound scientific evidence that any of the artificial sweeteners approved for use in the U.S. cause cancer or other serious health problems. And numerous research studies confirm that artificial sweeteners are generally safe in limited quantities, even for pregnant women. As a result of the newer studies, the warning label for saccharin was dropped."
