back to thread. yea jerky is your best bet. in terms of convenience. my grandfather used to make his own. you can buy a dehumidifier machine if you wanted and make huge bags of jerky experimenting with different marinades etc.. or you could just buy a bunch of jerkey from costco etc..

I'm going to look into the dehydrator. I thought it was more expensive than that to get into jerky production. That would pay for itself pretty quick vs premade.
Same thing with the oven and you can do 5x as much. that's the problem with those little dehydrators..ya cant do a lot. Some of them have stackable trays you can by and add to it..but then with more meat to dry..it increases the time to get it done.
I'm actually thinking about doing a ground jerky in my smoker. take ground deer add some spices and push it out of a jerky gun(like a caulking gun) make little dog turds out of it..LOL then place racks of it in smoker until done.

Oven isn't a dehydrater dick head. You'll just have lightly cooked meat. You need air flow to get real jerky you stupid fuck. :)

Use lean cuts that do not have any silverside. Fat makes the jerky go rancid quick and silverside is annoying to chew. Eye of round is a good choice.
