  • What fruits are best to eat in any diet?

I eat about 4-5 fruits a day, 2 apples,1pear and 1 bannana. I am trying to eat as clean as possible for the last 2.5 weeks and I'm noticing a big difference. What fruits are best to eat during a cutting or bulking phase? Thanks

well, when bulking im fairly certain fruits are good to eat. i love bananas

when cutting i personally would avoid them to some degree. Although they are natural sugars, they are still high in carbs.

I would generally stay away from high carb high glycemic fruits, apples, pears, oranges, and banannas, sorry. Stick to berries, and melons (cantelope, honeydew) they are relatively low in carbs.

None of them are high glycemic. Just the opposite.

fruits are good for you, but you have to know when to eat them, how much, etc.... as with everything.

Fruit is not good for cutting. Bananas are one of the highest glycemic index fruits. Apples and strawberries are the lower. Pears and oranges are high. Fruit is ok for bulking, in moderation.
However, fruit while cutting is a no- no. When cutting, you're CUTTING out sugar, sat. fats, etc. Whether it's simple or complex sugar, your body still processes it the same way. I don't know of anyone of my friends who eat bananas while dieting for a show.

Why do you say it is good for cutting? How can sugar be ok for a cutting diet?

Again, I'm with RS on this one. Very little to no fruit while cutting and then only stawberries and blueberries, and then only in the pre-workout meal.

Logic: Fruit contains fructose which is not immediately availible to your muscles as energy. Fructose must first be made into glycogen by your liver, if you liver glycogen stores are full that fructose will immediately be converted into FAT.

There is so much misinformation on the GI index on these body building boards it is not even funny. Most fruit have a low GI and GL. You need to look at both indexes. They dont turn to fat. Love to see the science behind that one.Low GI foods have and index of 55 or less.Low GL foods(a more important index) have an index of 10 or less. Here are some examples:

                            Apple- GI-38, GL-6
                            banana -GI(USA)-42, GL-11
                            pear -GI-38, GL-4
                            orange -GI-42, GL-5
                            Peach -GI-38, GL-4

Someone mentioned stick with melons, well guess what they have a higher GI then you are eating. Cantelope has a GI of 65 which is in the mid range not the low range. I have one of the largest GI and GL data basis there is on my computer in an excell format. You folks should pick up a book called The new Glucose revelotion. Which list the above. I have studied this stuff because my daughter is a type one diabetic. Some one also suggested to stick with low carbs well guess what fruit are very low in carbs. If you like I will list them for the above. When I cut I eat fruit and at 55 can still get down to 5% bf.

Have you ever really been down to 5%??? That's about 1/2 % away from contest BF for males.....and again- HAVE NEVER HEARD OF ANYONE EATING THAT MUCH FRUIT ON A CUTTING DIET. My close personal friend who won the 2003 Jr. Nat's in women's BBing ate next to NO FRUIT. My other friend who won the 2003 Jr. USA's men's BBing ate NO FRUIT..maybe 6 strawberries/ day. So, I'm still not getting how to incorporate fruit into a cutting or show diet.
