  • Proteins;Blends, Precision, is there a difference?

I'm About to run out of protein and was looking at several brands. Is there a major diffrerence in outcome between Whey protein and these "whey blends"? If there is could you site the differences for me, and include several whey protein supplements i should look at. These are specific brands that I noticed had diffrences. The scientific jargon used was difficult to understand when they discussed filtration.
EAS has Precision protein, and I was looking at some Whey blends: Pro Blend 55, and Pro V-60. The last two had a large amount of protein, but with a large amount of calories (keep in mind I am trying to lose body fat). Is the large amount of protein, out weigh the large amount of calories, or should I stick with regular Whey with less calories? Thanks YJ.

In particular, what brands are you looking at? There's not an extreme difference, but you generally get what you pay for. Dont be fooled however, 100% whey protein is very inexpensive, this is one time when I really push www.powernutrition.net because of their low prices on all of their whey products, ie. Optimum 100% whey and Por Rated (personal favorite). Next you have to decide if you want whey isolate or whey concentrate. In short, isolate is more easily digested and supreme over concentrate, but is a bit more expensive. A lot of brands are now blending both isolate and concentrate together to make a quality protein and keep the price reasonable. To be honest, I use ginger root so concentrate doesnt bloat me like others complain of. Nectar is a very good isolate whey, if youre looking to go 100% isolate.

As for your second question (if I didnt hit the 1st good enough, let me know, I can elaborate more on the filtration, etc.) A personal favorite blend of mine (and by far the best tasting, I know Petefox loves it as well) is Syntrax's Isomatrix Reloaded. Each serving is only 90 calories, 0 of which is fat (and we know that 1g of fat = 9 calories, so by eliminating fat, that lowers calories greatly), Protein content is 23g per scoop (not bad) and 0 carbs. So this would be excellent as a blend for those looking to cut calories, or trying to be in a hypocaloric state.

    Powernutrition.net also carries it, http://powernutrition.net/product_in...roducts_id=280
and like I said before, tastes awesome.

If you need anything else, let me know.

The ones I'am looking at are: Natures best Isopure (zero carbs), EAS Precison Protein, Pro-V60, and Pro Blend 55.

Nature's Best has about Calories 200, Calories from Fat 0, Total Fat 0 g 0%, Protein 50 g. Nature's Best Perfect Isopure, is the first and only product of its kind to contain 50 grams of 100% Pure Ion Exchange Whey Protein Isolate. All impurities have been removed to provide you with a great tasting, lactose free, fat free, glutamine-enriched state-of-the-art meal replacement drink mix. Furthermore, Isopure contains only 1 gram of sugar. Ingredients:
Ion Exchange Whey Protein Isolate, Vitamin/Mineral/Amino Acid Blend (Taurine, Potassium [as Potassium Chloride], Chloride [as Potassium and Sodium Chloride], Calcium [as Dicalcium Phosphate Dihydrate], Phosphorus [as Dicalcium Phosphate dihydrate], L-Glutamine, Magnesium [as Magnesium Oxide], Vitamin E [as Dl-Alpha Tocopheryl Acetate], Niacin, Zinc [as Zinc Sulphate Dihydrate], Vitamin A [as Palmitate], Pantothenic Acid [as D-Calcium Pantothenate], Vitamin D3 [as Cholecalciferol], Vitamin B6 [as Pyridoxine], Copper [as Amino Acid Chelate], Manganese [as Manganese Sulfate Dihydrate], Riboflavin, Thiamin [as Thiamin Hydrochloride], Folic Acid, Biotin, Iodide [as Potassium Iodide], Chromium [as Amino Acid Chelate], Molybdenum [as Amino Acid Chelate], Selenium [as Amino Acid Chelate], Vitamin B12), Cocoa, Xanthan Gum, Natural and Artificial Flavor, Sucralose, Silicon Dioxide.

EAS Precison Protein has about Calories 100, Calories from Fat 9, Total Fat 1 g 1.5%, Saturated Fat 0.5 g, and Protein 20 g 40%. EAS utilizes the most up-to-date technology to isolate and stabilize these fragile microfraction proteins. In the past, most of the methods of whey processing and isolation used extreme temperatures and acidic conditions, thus destroying these valuable microfractions. Only recently have new extraction techniques been developed and employed which may make it possible to isolate and stabilize protein microfractions in a finished whey-protein powder. The two most advanced techniques, known as ion exchange and ultrafiltration, are used in combination to create Precision Protein—quite possibly the highest quality, microfraction-rich whey protein available today.
In addition to Precision Protein's extraordinary microfraction profile, it is formulated with key amino acids, including: glutamine (in peptide form), taurine, and glycine, which may support cell volumizing and protein metabolism. The conditionally essential amino acid arginine has also been added to this formula to help support growth-factor production. And, the amino acid phenylalanine is included to reinforce the overall amino acid profile of the Precision Protein formula and boost its biological value. Other Ingredients:
Precision Protein Blend™ (Whey-Protein Isolate from Ion-Exchanged and Ultrafiltered Whey, Peptide-Bonded Glutamine, Taurine, Arginine, Peptide-Bonded Glycine, and Phenylalanine), Low-Fat Dutch Cocoa, Natural and Artificial Flavors, Magnesium Phosphate, Cellulose Gum, Lecithin, Acesulfame K, Stevia, Chromium Citrate, and Vitamin B6.

      PHENYLKETONURICS: Contains Phenylalanine

Pro-Blend 55 has Calories 270, Calories from Fat 14, Total Fat 1.5 g, and Protein 55 g 108%. Pro Blend 55 is a lactose free, low in fat protein blend that can be added to water, milk, juice, yogurt or shakes. It is a combination of 6 of the Highest Biological Value proteins with 55 grams of muscle building protein per serving and can also be added to muffins, cookies, pancakes or cereals. Pro Blend 55 is the only product of its kind that blends Micro Ultra Filtered Whey Protein concentrate, Egg Albumen, Calcium Caseinate, Micro Ultra Filtered Whey Protein Isolate, Ion Exchanged Whey Protein Isolate and Hydrolyzed Whey Protein Isolate. Other Ingredients:
Micro Ultra Filtered Whey Protein concentrate, Egg Albumen, Calcium Caseinate, Micro Ultra Filtered Whey Protein Isolate, Ion Exchage Whey Protein Isolate, Hydrolized Whey Protein Isolate, Natural and Artificial Vanilla Flavorings, Acesulfame Potassium, Stevia Rebaudiana.

Pro-V60 has Calories 310, Calories from Fat 20, Total Fat 2.5 g 4%, Saturated Fat 1.5 g 7.%, Protien 60g. PRO V60 Multi-Purpose Protein Blend works equally well for men and women. Just use "two scoops for him, one scoop for her!" Two scoops of PROV60 contain a whopping 60 grams of five high-quality proteins including three different kinds of whey protein, plus egg albumin and casein. That's the power of "The V"! Ingredients:
PRO-V™ [Unique Blend of Micro Ultrafiltered Whey Protein Concentrate, Agglomerated Egg Albumin, Calcium Caseinate, Micro Ultrafiltered Whey Protein Isolate], Natural and Artificial Flavors, Xantham Gum, Cellulose, Aspartame, Acesulfame Potassium.

      PHENYLKETONURICS: Contains phenylalanine.

Thanks for taking the time YJ

Isopure is pretty much a staple in cutting diets and is surprisingly very good for a 0- carb shake. I still prefer the Syntrax Isomatrix Reloaded, comparable macronutrient breakdown, slightly less protein but much cheaper and tastes a bit better. Nectar is another tasty 0 carb shake, but its 100% whey... not a blend like youre looking for.

If those are your only options, Isopure wins hands down. I think I have a site that sells the big 8lb bags for an excellent price, Ill look it up for you....

YJ could you elaborate on the filtration process? Thanks.

YJ, another question. If I'm taking Protein shakes along with HMB, a protein breakdown suppressor, does adding L-Glutamine help with building additional lean muscle? Would also adding BCAA's and amino acids, derived from whey protein, and peptide bonded, counter productive to the other supplements I'm taking (those above, along with flax oil)? Thanks man. Your knowledge has helped me start becoming more healthy. Again my goal is -50lbs by January. Is there anything I have missed.

What is effervesent? I see it on proteins, creatines, and other products. How can it be used across the board?
