If i may piggy back on this post and ask what is the normal dosage for supplementing with this? I was told by someone that he takes 4-5 grams of the actuall EPA DHA from fish oils...the reccomended dosage on the bottles suggests like 1 gram per day. My question is what, if any, benefit are there to taking more, and what are your thoughts on how much to supplement with?

Supplements
Many people have turned to fish oil supplements to get adequate omega-3 fatty acids.
Fish oil supplements have sometimes come under scrutiny in recent years. In early 2006, government agencies such as the Food Standards Agency in the UK and the Food Safety Authority of Ireland reported PCB levels that exceeded the strict new European maximum limits in several fish oil brands,[3][4] which required temporary withdrawal of these brands. To address the growing concern over contaminated fish oil supplements, the International Fish Oil Standards program, a voluntary review process, was created at University of Guelph.
Patented production purification processes do however exist in order to remove pollutants and dioxins from fish oil to levels far below the EU limits. This is called stripping technology.
Most of the fish oils used for Omega purposes are originating from Peru, Chile and Morocco because the Omega 3 levels in the fish caught in these areas are higher (around 30%) than in Scandinavian and other fish oils (around 20%). Fish oils are being used in the Omega 3 industry to produce nutraceuticals and pharmaceuticals. However, the largest off-takers of the Omega 3 fish oils are still the leading buyers with the big fish feed companies such as Ewos, Skretting and Biomar in the lead.Last edited by NYCmitch25; 11-27-08, 09:30 AM.

thats kind of a false statement. you say "all kinds of shit they found in it." not really true, they only found shit in like 2 out of 50 brands tested and those brands were no name brands. costco brand is consistent good quality and tested so.Originally posted by NYCmitch25 View Post^stfu

I'd stick with brands that are pharmaceutical grade quality - NutraSea, Nordic Naturals, Carlson Labs and Natural Factors - I'm sure there are others, but these are the ones I know. One of the concerns with cheaper brands is the oil may go rancid quite quickly, which doesn't affect it's nutritional value, but it will repeat on you. There's nothing like the taste of fish oil burps

you took that statement too literal. i guess you dont mind PCB's plus high levels of mercury. i have a link to support it, not sure why its so false... im try to inform him on staying away from no name brands or generics which may be harmful.Originally posted by THE BOUNCER View Postthats kind of a false statement. you say "all kinds of shit they found in it." not really true, they only found shit in like 2 out of 50 brands tested and those brands were no name brands. costco brand is consistent good quality and tested so.Last edited by NYCmitch25; 11-27-08, 11:06 AM.

the level of mercury and PCB's found in the top fish oil brands is so low it is considered untraceable.Originally posted by NYCmitch25 View Postyou took that statement too literal. i guess you dont mind PCB's plus high levels of mercury. i have a link to support it,
post a link saying otherwise about any top brand.
