I decided to try the black coffee approach today (12oz). No bueno. It gave me an energy boost but after using various pre workout supps, it's just not the same. The energy buzz fades quickly and you dont have that intense drive (I can't explain it). I crawl out of bed at 545am and drink my supp on the way to the gym. By the time I reach the gym (15 min), I go from droopy eyed tired to high stepping thru the door, blasting thru a vein popping workout, and sweat dripping cardio.
Coffee woke me up but that was really the extent of it.

everything you do is healthy. you can afford to use a little something especially now that you are training legs twice a week and trying to break through a plateau. Might be just the thing you need. Try 1 god damn jug and and see if it helps you. Nobody is saying you need to run it for life.Originally posted by Scrumhalf View PostYeah, I have never had them, bro. I have always figured that 200mg of caffeine plus some carbs and protein 1 hour before a workout should get me going. That's what I usually do (usually just a couple cups of coffee, a 200mg pill occasionally if needed). Trouble also is, I usually work out later in the day, usually around 4 or 5pm, so I don't want to take things that will get me too wired either. Plus I hear you, there's a lot of other stuff in there, and I've always been leery of the supplement industry.

Scrum
you don't need the pre-work out drinks. there expensive and you become dependent on them and build a tolerance. they have all kinds of questionable ingredients. they have a chemical artificial tasted. its diff. for the bb'lder but you have been an all natural healthy guy. I think I saw you don't drink soda. I wouldn't bother and if you want just reserve it for when you need an extra kick in the ass.

Even so, I think it should be considerably higher than that. I am curious to see what it is when you monitor it yourself.Originally posted by Scrumhalf View PostI had a cup of coffee about 1 hour before my workout. You mean the heart rate is too low? I'll have to use my pulse next time and check.
Or maybe I'm just a badass... ;)

So I tried out the treadmill after doing shoulders and traps today.
At 3.4mph and an incline of 4.0, I averaged 107 bpm for 20 min.

Honestly, it came off as rude, and to be fair the thread was directed right to Scrum.

I have to disagree, even if your working out to build muscle strength opposed to muscle size you still benefit from extra water getting to the muscles right?Originally posted by Mr incredible View PostPump, vascularity, muscle fullness etc, those kind of results are neither here or there if your not a bodybuilder
Also, just to add I havent used Xplod for a while but I just bought some C4 by Cellucor at Costco the other day. Love this stuff.
