  • Shoulder Joint LImiting Bench Press

    Hi folks,

My dumbbell bench press is being limited by my shoulder joint.

Basically during my bench sets, I feel like I have a couple of more reps in me but my shoulder joint feels like it will pop if I attempt it, so I stop. This is really frustrating!

Are there specific exercises to target the tendons and ligaments in my shoulder, or should I just keep pushing as hard as I can and it will get better as my upper body gets stronger?

Is there anything I can add to my diet/supplements to help? Currently, I am only taking whey protein and multivitamins in addition to normal food.

Any help and advice would be great.

    Thanks!

I agree... that's probably what it is... are there specific things I can do to make it stronger or should I continue to just work my delts and eventually they will catch up to my pecs?

I don't really have any serious pain or anything that would lead me to see the doctor, just the feeling that my shoulder joint is gonig to fail before my pecs during benching.

the only supps I could suggest would be some MSM, maybe some elasti-joint by labroda. omega-3's supposely help to reduce inflammation as well. go see a doctor brother

Try deca....The extra fluids in the joint areas sometimes aid in lubrication...also glucosomine gonadrophin...Whatever you do don't try to work through shoulder joint pain....you can mess your shoulder up...One time I took a bounce on shoulder presses with 75lb dumbells. I continued to work through the pain and at the end of it all I could only lift 5 - 15 lbs for the next year or so...You don't want to screw your shoulders up...believe me

Try doing some light weight shoulder adductions, i have had shoulder problems for the past year so i have started recently doing rotator cuff exercises on saturdays and havent had any problems since. You want to be very careful when it comes to your shoulders, its the most movable joint in the body.

Thanks for all the advice, my friends!

I think I will check into the supplements mentioned, as well as maybe stick to DB presses and inclines for now where I have no problems - it is the flat bench that is causing problems. Maybe after given the shoulder a couple of months to heal it will be better.

Also, I think I'll go in to my doctor and have it checked out anyway - I don't want my lifting career to end quite yet :)

              Thanks again!

if you go do a search for rotator cuff exercises you will find a bunch of 'em. You can do the exercises that people do for rotator cuff rehab. then your problem will go away for sure.
