I'M STILL GOING TO HIT IT HEAVY AT THE GYM, THIS BOWFLEX IS JUST FOR THE DAYS I CAN'T MAKE IT TO THE GYM, AND TO GET A QUICK PUMP BEFORE MY FEMALE GUESTS ARRIVE FOR POOL PARTYS!!
Originally posted by bighands HELLO EVERYONE. I JUST PURCHASED A TOP OF THE LINE BOWFLEX MACHINE, IT WAS TWO GRAND. I BOUGHT IT SO THAT WHEN I DON'T GO TO THE GYM I COULD WORK OUT AT HOME. HAVE ANY YOU OUT THERE TRIED THESE MACHINES. DO THEY WORK? I'M ALWAYS TRYING TO AND SIZE SO WILL THIS HELP OR SLOW DOWN MY TRAINING?
I don't see how changing a machine would hinder your training. Anything is better than nothing. If you can I would always hit the gym for better machines, but I understand as there are days I just don't feel like going out to workout, I wish I had something like that to bust out a few sets to get me through a small workout until the next day.
I wouldn't use this as my sole workout though, I can't see it being as good as hack squats, leg press, shoulder press, etc.

Nobody is against getting some extra equipment for home, bro, either for all your workouts or for the days when you don't feel like dragging yourself over to the gym... I think a lot of people here have either full blown home gyms of at least some eqiupment for home workouts.
The only thing everyone is saying is that you can equip yourself with a high quality power rack, pulldown station, preacher station, leg extension/ham curl station and a decent collection of olympic plates and dumbbells for well under 1 grand, or less than half of the cost of the bowflex - so why would you want a machine that without question is inferior.
That's all.... that being said, it is a free country and everyone can spend their cash any way they like.
The bottom line is you gain what you put into it. If you max out the machine's capabilities then you can progress no further. If it suits your needs on days when you can't make it to the gym and you've got the cash, then do it. The big difference between machines and free weights is that you can change the angle of attack on the exercise you are performing and the range of motion and variety of excercise available to you. It's called pumping iron for a reason, lol. Enjoy it if it works for you.
Pros:
For about 2/3 of what you spent on the Bowflex you could probably get a decent power cage, fully adjustable bench w/leg attachments, dumbell sets, smith machine with upper and lower cable pulleys (like the power cage, it needs no spotter for bench or squats), curl bar, barbell and a shitload of free weights. You can schedule your workouts more conveiniently. You can wear the dumbest, oldest, rattiest workout rags and no one will see them, lol.
Cons:
The amount of space fitness equipment like that requires. It's a bitch if you plan on changing residence. No hottie chicks like in the Bowflex commercial :beaver:

IMO, Bowflex is a very nice machine for $600. Anything more than that is too much.
