I've been doing them for over 5 years now. I do 5 sets of 15+ reps and sometimes I strap 25 pounds to myself (I weigh 200 lbs).

I try and vary the grip over the 5 sets....

Arnold said to do 50 reps each time you work back. If it takes 1 set, then great. If it takes 50 sets of 1 rep, do it!

    It keeps getting easier.

I do assisted wide grip pull ups on the Gravitron, 4 x 12. The level of assistance varries, using more help if I do this exercise last and less help if it's first. I do them slowly and hold myself up at the top for a few seconds on the last few reps. I found that if I lean forward keeping my feet back I hit the back muscles harder and use less of my arms. I'm 5'3", 163#.

I just started doing chinups, and I do them wide and have gotten to where my last set isn't assisted. I normally knock out 2-3 sets of 12 with the first one or 2 assisting me by 40 pounds. My lats have grown tremendously. I picked it up after reading Ronnie Coleman's back workout and how he said that if you dont do chinups your back will never reach its full potential. I think he was right LOL!! I always make this either my first or final back exercise because either way I can feel my back weeping when I finish.

Yeah, tell me about it, I did my chinups a whole 4 days ago, and my lats still kill; and by kill, I don't mean just hurt, I mean they make me say many 4 letter words.....
