  • after workout

Hey guys I just have a quick question, I have been following a routine set out by a couple of you and I have been working until my muscles just wont work anymore.

After the workout I would be lucky to be able to pick up my daughter, Is this a bad thing or should i feel like this??? Because I was given advice to drop some weight but I need an opinion from you guys, Im trying to build muscle not tone.... so im guessing by reading on this site that I want to keep the weight heavy...

Sorry for the rambling, my arms are killing me from typing this.... thanks for any input..

When I leave the gym I come out dead tired.

If you put 100% effort into your workout you should be tired.

Also remember your post workout meal. You'll nee to replenish the glycogen and also get some protein to start in the healing process.

Yes, it is common to feel like that after a workout.

I have no idea what your current routine is or age, or training experience. These are all factors. Maybe you need to scale back the reps/sets (volume) and or the number of days per week? 3 day training split. Lift every other day MWF 48-72 hours between workouts. You may prefer this anyway with the demands of family life. It is tricky to understand if your doing enough because you want to "floor" yourself everytime and be completely drained - forced reps/etc. This shouldnt be the norm damage your CNS. It is really better to undertrain than to overtrain. To be improving you dont always have to be sore or super tired. When I start a new routine I start with a little lighter w8ts than my ego wants too. My goal every week is to get stronger. I add 5-10lbs.

Are you using any supplements? Good nutrition? I have noticed an increase in strength/energy with YJs supplement recommendations - in particular the Multivitamin, BCAA's + Creatine. If your training to fatique every week you will need to schedule full weeks away from the gym for several reasons. 6-8 weeks? I hear diff. numbers all the time. I try not to go beyond 13 weeks.

          Good luck bro.

          Training Split example from BB.com
          Monday - Chest, Shoulders, Triceps
          Wednesday - Legs, Abs
          Friday - Back, Traps, Biceps

              another good routine is:

Monday: Chest and tri's & abs
Wed: Back and Bi's & abs
Fri: Legs, shoulders, and a little tri's & abs

I do the same, I usually try to rest each muscle 48-72 hrs........like they say you dont gain muscle in the weight room you gain muscle at home..........

heavy is a relative term so you need to be more specific in your routine because most of us have no idea what it is. I work quite hard in the gym but I am usually in and out in about 30-40 minutes which includes warmup and cooldown so my working intensely is hard but I also don't load on the sets or volume.

You know you've worked out hard with intensity on your upper body when you get into the shower and have to tip your head down to wash your hair because you can't raise your arms that high, lol. Same thing for legs- you can't stand too long without them shaking under just your own weight, even after an hour. Every bodypart becomes friggin heavy! LOL

I love that feeling. Or when you get into you car after the gym and have to use both arms to get your seatbelt on. I read somehere a while back the Governor of California once told somebody that he never left the gym without woring himself until he threw up. Of course nowadays with the research and testing and overall learning that has taken place we now know how to work out a little smarter and safer. But who wouldn't like to look like Arnold did in his haydays. Hell I 'd like to have the body he has now when I'm his age. He was juicing way before any of us agree was a safe age or at least before we would have started but you don't see him suffering from any sides or he hides them really well.

Arnold did have a quadruple bypass a few years ago but we can't say definitively that it was from years of steroid usage. I doubt that he used anything close to the amounts of stuff that Coleman, Cutler, Priest or Gunther use today.
