  • Knee/Hip joint discomfort

Maybe this isn't the right forum for this question but have any of you experienced this kind of pain NOT while training but upon awakening from a night's sleep? I have begun sleeping with a pillow between my knees (if on my side) or under my knees (if on back) and it seems to help alleviate the pain a lot. It doesn't matter if is after or preceding a leg workout either because I took 3 weeks off from legs to see if it was a related injury but it didn't seem to make a difference. It doesn't happen all of the time but I noticed that lately, it happens more frequently than before. Is this some early-mid stage of arthritis setting in? I'm only in my mid-30's-ish. LOL.

I'm trying to figure this whole deal out. Last night I slept on my right side (no pillow between knees) and this morning my right knee was actually sore to the touch. It wasn't swollen though. Hips were a bit stiff too. I took some naproxen and it subsided as the morning passed.

I would go ahead and try doing two light sets of leg abduction exercises once a week. Throw it in with your leg workout. If it dosn't help within two weeks, do the normal ice and NSAID routine. Then work it in. Sounds very much like hip flexor irritation. Your knees hurtin probalby just has to do with the over stretching of the ligaments. Alot when you lie directly on your side, as you relax and the heavy parts of your legs relax and go with gravity, the relief point is the joints. Does that make sense?

yup, I appreciate it and will use a low cable assy to train abductors. Thanks Shibby!

Do certain movements make it hurt? Does activity make it feel better?

I start out somewhat stiff in the morning when this happens and it takes some time to limber up. It doesn't bother me if lifting though because I have been awake and active for some time. I think it has a lot to do with warming up the joints too.
