  • Bench going Down

I was seeing real gains in over all strength. Then I had to change my exercise routine in order for a physical aglity test for a new job. This test requires me to bench 90% of my wieght and run 1.5 miles in 12 mins.
I lowered calories to 1500 a day near 100 of that is from fat.
my wieght has dropped to 230. I'm 6'6".
I can just barely get the run.
But with the Cardio training it seams my bench has dropped from 240 to 205 and Now 185 Today. I didn't carb up today maybe thats why. I left the gym and will try tomorrow and work chest and tri's fully. Little upset. This is freaking me out.
I haven't done cardio in 2 day and I guess I'll take another day from it. My leggs have really sculpted out. Everything on me seams to have grown also.
    My Routine

    Mon: Chest, Tri's
Tues: sometime rest or Back and Bi's
Wed: Back and Bi's unless I did them Previous
    thur: Legs. Sometimes shoulders, forarms
    Friday: rest

Six days a week: Abs Upper, lower, obli, never same in 48 Hours. Cardio: one every day for six days also Bike, track, tread mill, Total eliptical.

    Diet sups
    Multi Vitamin
150min Plus protien daily Iso pure
1250mill Flak seed oil twice day
    6-oxo ( I think it helps)
    cod liver oil
    B complex
Iron- I was anemic still take them it's ok
    Calium with d
    Glucosamine condroiton with msm( methysulfonylmethane)

Ok rip away hehe. I know I'm doing something wrong.

Just came across this, but I have to run out....quick reply why would you drop your caloric intake? it's entirely possible that you are not getting enough calories for all that work you are doing. You need to feed the muscles. This could be the answer for your drop in bench presses.

1500 calories is nothing. Even I eat more than that and I am a 5'6 woman :)

Sorry for the quick post. Hope it helps.

      Thanks

I'm uping my calories this week. The reason for for so little cal is to loose wieght. They have me benching 90% of my body wieght. Plus less wieght helps with the run.

I wouldn't have dropped your calories either (Unless you were over like 4000). I would have just changed up your training to make it more goal specific. A little weight would have dropped anyways for increasing the cardio. How are you training for the run and where were you at when you started? I would also leave a day on it's own for legs since you train it all at the same time. I do the same with legs and there is no way I have the proper energy for anything else since so much mass is worked out that day already. Sounds like there is a bit of over training in there which would also contribute to the drop in bench.

          Ok

Before I change my work out I was 1500 to 2000 calories a day. Sunday is my day of rest and cheating (on diet) =). I was getting in shape and loosing fat. I was a couch potatoe.
          I use to:
          Mon Chest and Back: Heavy
          tues shoulders, arms Heavy
          wed Legs, Heavy
          thurs Chest and Back light
          friday shoulders , Arms Light
          sat Legs

          Abs and calves almost everyday
This game me a really good base; really tough.

            are you drinking enough water?

            are you getting enough sleep?

do you feel any soreness in your shoulders or chest?

are you trying to max out everytime you bench?

i know some of these questions may be obvious answers or "duh's" but just thought i'd ask the simple questions first

the water wouldn't have much to do with your bench going down, but you said you were trying to lose weight and if you are drinking enough water it should aid in the weight issue

              Hey Thanks everyone

I've been kinda trying to do three things at same time. Loose wieght, Gain strength, and speed for a 1.5 mile run. I've over trained and my diet should have more calories. Last week I have been really tired and had joint pain.
Eating alot more calories now (2500 to 3000). Still keeping it clean. Will be lifting really hard 4 days only a week soon! With calories around 4000.

Have you even bothered to calculate your BMR to come up with a decent diet. It sounds like you are just shooting in the dark with this whole thing.

Well I stated back in the gym from a year of doing absolutley nothing. My BMR was around 1500 that cause I really did nothing. I probly walked from the bed to bathroon to the livingroom twice a day back then.
I'm on the move now. I have so much energy and I've lost about eight inches in my waste. I would have to guess my BMR your right. I just didn't care and got stupid with loosing weight and lost strenght as a result. Thanks everyone for input. I love this site and refer it to my friends.

The FDA approves a 2000 calorie a day diet for "SEDENTARY" individuals so there is no way that your BMR was at 1500 calories for maintenance standards.

Glad to hear that you are back on the right track though. Keep researching and post your diet etc if you want us to help - otherwise you are just leaving yourself wide open.

I really don't take the FDA for a credible 100% right all the time source. Thats my opinion.

I'm not saying that they are a good source of information at all. In my opiniion that is just another part of the government's under-funded and rediculously stupid departments but don't get me started on all of the FDA's shortcomings.

I was merely using them as an example to the extent that there is no way in hell that a 6'6" man at a current weight ranging from 220-250 could possibly have a BMR of 1500 calories in order to maintain strength and current size.
