  • One hour Training

    Ok every where I read i see people saying they exercise for one hour. Or there schedule only allows them one hour to get to the gym and back in one hour. Is this BS? I personally warm up for 10 mins and shretch for 10 mins more if its legs.
    I've seen all different athele's training and they useally take more than a hour. Sometimes they split routines exercising in morning and afternoon for 2 hours a day. My workouts take about 1 hour and 45 mins But I do take 3-5 mins between sets. Is this to long? Ok rip away hehe.

    Post your routine. It sounds way to long, maybe we can see why. Actuall lifting time for me is 45-50 minutes. I do spend about an hour and half at the gym, but that includes warm up(walking cardio) stretch, specific warmup(light weight reps of what I'm working) then lift, then 10 mintutes high intensity cardio.

      It depends on what your goals are. 3-5mins is OK for powerlifters, but for bodybuilders on the order of 1min is preferred. This allows you to keep "the pump" and to keep the workout closer to the desirable 45minutes, after which you run the risk of having depleted glycogen stores in the muscle and having compromised performance. Sometimes, people will supplement with a carb drink to allow glycogen to be refueled but I know that when I am training hard as I should be, I am totally spent after 1hr. I don't count stretching time in that, so I'm at the gym for more than 45minutes, but actual workout time should be about that--for a bodybuilder.

        I train my entire upper body on one day and my lower body on another and my workouts only take an hour.

          It seems like if you can lift for more than 45 min to an hour you may not be working hard enough. I'm not trying to talk shit or anything but I know after 45 min with about a minute or 2 between sets, I can barely get my sweaty shirt off to take a shower.

                  Ok seams that I take to long between sets. I useally take about 1 hr on Chest or back days. Legs or Shoulder and arms takes 1 hr 15 - 30. Lots of rest thoughs days and I push myself really hard. Thanks everyone.
                  I might also have to bring a carb drink around with me when I workout.

                    Use a wristwatch to time yourself between sets. 1 minute to 90sec intervals take a little getting used to - I have had to breathe deeply and concentrate on getting relaxed for the next set (although that phrase sounds like a contradiction). After a while you can get used to it.

                      rest time is the big one...if at the :45 mark all of a sudden you're getting ready for your next set, you should be ok for 45 min to an hour. If you get up and walk around the gym, stretch a whoooooole lot between sets, start talking to a bunch of people, before you know it, you're resting 5-10 min between sets, and it's all over

                        Just to add a little to what's been said already. You have to find that happy medium between getting enough rest for your next set and not getting cold. I always tell people, take as long as you need to but no longer than you have to.

                          workouts take me around 45-60 minutes. If i talk with friends, im there 1.5 hours. But these past few days, workouts have been short.

                            My work out consists of a few volume and circuit training methods which only takes up 1 hour or less and its better for me in gaining size plus Dr Squat says that if you WORK out longer then an hour cortisol begins to release.                               my workouts for most body parts are anywhere from 45 min to an hour, i can remember back when i got into this sport in the 80s, all the bid dudes used to tell me, get in the gym, train hard, then get the fuck out and enjoy your life.. and from i have seen that is true, most of the gym rats who overtrain and are in the gym for 2 to 3 hours a day (pros exlcuded) in 5 years will still look the same and have also lost out on some valuable time that they could have been doing anything but being in the gym
