I think pullups like bench press are a very genetic body dependent exercise. I fail at the same exact TUT every set whether I have added weight on or using an assisted machine (to a point, obviously if it was supporting all of my weight or most I could go long). its right around 45 seconds and it pisses me off. plus I think people wait too long to incorporate them into a workout, I didn't do them for so long and I added like 50 pounds of bodyweight but never did them as I got heavier so the correlation of pullup strength to bodyweight was put out of whack. I really try to work on them, I wish I had a nice pullover machine in my gym cuz supersseting them with pullovers is great, takes the weak link out. or I could just lose some weight, lol.

can you talk about this more. I get that way with dips! I can do 12 dips with my body weight and then add in 12 dips with a 45lb plate and go back to body weight at 12 again. no matter what its always 12. I thought it was in my head?
I can do 3 sets of 12 with just body weight just making it to 12 each time. then I can add in a plate and still just make 12. WTF?

well I most of what I think has to do with the weak links that are inherent in each of us. they are all at different spots. then on top of that you have to factor in the fiber type of that weak link. Mine has to do with a muscle that is primarily fast-twitch on pullups because it is always around the 45 second mark that I fail at. obviously its not giving my lats a good workout if I can't get past that mark. so that is why I mentioned the pre-exhaust with a pullover (Which my gym doesn't have yet). but that superset is great for me when available, amazing burn and great pump. also I think part of "bodyweight" exercises is the actual structure of us, I think with machines we can adjust them to fit us for the most part but if we don't fit pullups and dips for whatever reason its harder.

Ditto...stopped doing them years ago. I can isolate my back muscles so much better with pulldowns.

I do chins/pul ups sometimes but never with any added weight, I try and really squeeze my shoulder blades back and in
