        Go all the way down till you hit your chest. That's a natural brake, if you stop short, you're going to wreck havoc on your tendons cause you're using your ligaments as a brake to stop the weight. You want full range of motion.

          If you lower the weight to the point that your ass comes up off the pad and you're rounding your lower back, then you're putting your lower back in a very vulnerable position. You can seriously injure your spine.
