  • I love running

Well, it's been about 2 months now...it's been so nice here the past 2 months, I've been going to the gym after work, and then going home and running with the dogs. I was mostly just taking them for a little jog to get some exercise, but now it's turned into almost an addiction- and I've never been a runner.

At first, I was running maybe a total of a mile....and having to stop every so often for about 15 seconds to rest. Well, I'm happy to say- I'm now up to THREE miles, and I only stop to let the dogs tinkle!! :weights:

The best part- after my body started realizing it's really time to lose weight- the rest of this baby flab seems to be finally coming off- I've lost 9 lbs in the past 6 weeks! I only have 5 lbs to get back to where I was when I got prego, and another 12ish total to lose....funny my body doesn't look the same though. :(

That leads me to my next 2 issue- the top of my knees hurt- like right above my knee caps. They just sort of ache after my knees have been bent, and I straighten them out. Any remedies or thoughts on this? And, I need some really cushy shoes. I just bought Asics, and they are no good. So, I switched to some older Brooks which seem to absorb the shock way better. Anyone have some running shoes they swear by?

I have a male version (just looking at the two side by side I can tell they as basically the same shoe) check out Nike Zoom sister one training shoes. I got mine for a good price on sale, and I use them for all cardio, love them. I couldn't remember the name of mine, if I find the box I can let you know - or just upload a pic of them, but that wont help much I guess. The reason I like these ones is that I get miserable shin splints - and these running shoes actually seem to help that, I've had them for 4 months and no problems so far (normally I'd stay away from most nike since they start to peel and wear down etc, not these ones). I'll see if i can get a pic and compare it to there site. But the Ladies version is def the Zoom sister 1 training shoe.

*edit* - I also have a piece of bone from the top of my left knee that is floating around and needs to be removed surgically, I'm waiting on doing that though since I can still do cardio and I'm still talking to a recruiter - surgery is a no no right now.

That's funny you say that...I've loved Nike's forever, but when I had done some running or sprinting in the past, they were awful on my knees- and horrible for my shin splints. I'll have to check them out.

The thing that sucks is running shoes are so expensive, and you can't very well return them after 2 weeks saying they suck & get your $$ back. :(

very true, hold on - I'll upload a pic of mine - I really wish I had the box to let you know so you could ask for the similar model for women, the more I look @ the other ones I mentioned they just aren't the same.

yeah, I got these for 49.99 from my buddy who works @ sports authority, not sure how much they are normally - I'm thinkin around 70 ? Anyway, these work great, I just can't figure the name out!! And they did make them for women also, grrr, maybe somebody will recognize them - they really do help w/my shins and even the left knee is holding up as long as I don't push it bad.

glad your enjoying life and have found a little hobby, cool that you can run with the dogs too, I think you should get a thigh massage and take some tension out, that will help relieve the knees, otherwise maybe program in some fast walk days instead of running for a while and take 5 grams glucosamine a day, they say if you don't take enough you wont get the benefit
