  • I hate time off

So my elbow has been tender the past week, especially when I do back, less so with chest. It bothered me running this morning so I decided a week off was in order. I haven't missed a training day since October so it is much warranted. But I still hate not hitting the weights for a week. I am not running either to give all my joints a break, but will continue biking.

Anyone else struggle during time off??

bro - I was tearing my skin off trying to keep busy and occupied while I was just on bed rest. I absolutely need the gym - I'm lucky I found a place where I can chill bring a couple meals too it and have a good environment. But yeah, when I have to rest it drives me insane. If I wasn't with a damn good trainer I would most likely overtrain.

I don't know what to do with myself. I am trying to do no mental work either during the week (at least the bare minimum needed to get through school) until next tuesday. Rejuvenate me. But I know exactly what you mean by going crazy

A week off every few months or so does better good than harm. Just eat clean and you'll usually be stronger when you go back

Do some stretching and light bodyweight calisthenics to keep loose. Good opportunity to work on flexibility... :)

Scrumhalf, what type of stretching do you recommend? Expecially for traps. Mine seem tight for some reason.

Since I have started training for my tri, I have been doing quads, hams, calves as typical. I have also done much hip stretching after reading about tight hips. I also work on stretching my shoulders to keep them back and down. But my traps seem to be tight.

              PM sent!

BTW, how did you work on your swimming? Do you have a coach who helps you work on your stroke?

I want to get better at swimming - I mean really get an efficient stroke that would let me swim for an hour without tiring. Since I am self taught, I am pretty sure I have a terribly inefficient stroke that tires me out quickly. I am toying with the idea of taking swimming lessons.

I am just winging it. I did some reading online, and found out I am too heavy and too short to be a good swimmer. I have just started swimming and am treating it as if as I was completely out of shape. Started out at 5 minutes non stop. I'll add a minute each time I go. It is completely different from running or biking. I am glad it is first in a tri

A triathlete who lives in my condo building said he really became good at swimming after taking the Total Immersion class. Unfortunately, they don't have classes in my city, and I'm not motivated enough at this point to drive 3 hours to Seattle to take the class. You may want to look into it. A lot of people I know who are good swimmers swear by the techniques taught in that class.

seems from my reading to be a good class to take. My first tri is just to get it done. If I decide to do another, I think the class may be on my agenda

Feel like one. I went out to jog after hitting my back. 5 minutes into my run stepped in a pothole and stressed my knee. no jogging again for a few days. But at least I'm melting away the weight I probably put on :weights::weights:
