what are your guys take on circuit training. currently i'm doing a push pull split any doing cardio 4 times a week. i was curious why not throw in a day or 2 where i do a circuit and leave out the cardio.
what are the pros and cons of circuit training vs. regular splits?

EDIT* i'm not looking to get huge anymore. i'm just trying to slowly build muscle while shed the fat.

I don't do it. However, i have friends that do it and they say you can lose a lot of weight. It does put a large strain on your cardiovascular system, so you must have some good conditioning.

thats exactly the reason why i was considering it. for people looking to burn fat through cardio while building muscle, why not? HIIT is fast and effective but what are the drawbacks?

building muscle parts comes to your diet and how effectively you're stimulating your muscle. One major drawback is it's harder to build muscle because your heart rate is high to point it may breakdown muscle for energy.

If you want to properly keep as much muscle on and burn fat, your diet will be where its at. What's your diet like?

What are your goals? I incorporate circuit training twice a week for GPP purposes. Circuit training is a must-do if you are a fighter (Rocket can comment on this beter) or for just fitness in general - you wont' get gassed easily if you do this.

I do circuits with things like burpees, grasshoppers, spit jumps, jumping jacks, etc. Basically something like 5 sets of a circuit with the above, 30 seconds per exercise going all out, with 30 seconds rest between each circuit to begin and without rest once you get fitter. It will kill you but you will be reborn a badass

i'm dumb and don't know how to multi quote so the first paragraph is answering the first statement and the second paragraph is obviously answering the diet question.

and i stated that i'm not trying to get huge and i understand muscle loss is inevitable when trying to lose fat, i'm just asking wouldn't circuit training minimize muscle loss while burning fat? not only do i burn more calories while circuit training, but you would also boost your metabolism when your not working out. so you replace traditional cardio and weight lifting for circuit training in a fraction of the time

my diet isn't perfect but i know my body enough to know that it's good enough to loose weight. i don't feel like typing out how my diet is exactly but it's high protein consisting of chicken, eggs, carbs are mostly whole wheat noddles and i try to get some natural peanut butter in as well as extra virgin olive oil
            i usually get 5 meals a day

my goal is just fitness. i got the size i want but just want to shed the fat (maybe loose around 5% would be awesome, but keep as much muscle as possible.
i need conditioning as well so i thought circuit once or twice a week would work good together with lifting 3 times a week

yes do it! but beware down the line when you are not as big its a mind fuck so be perpared. just looks then do fast walking on treadmill while lifting.
functunal strength would be good to circuit train but it will burn up some muscle.

it's definitely an interesting approach but that seems like i'd be overtraining my chest for sure. i need at least 4 days off after chest days

I think it can have its time and place in a effective workout regimen. Perhaps just to mix things up or when pressed for time. Intensity is the key with circuit training in my opinion. Heavy, hard, and fast.

haha your doing pushups. what do you think they do in the Marines. try telling your drill sargent that you dont want to overtrain. i doubt you could do it anyway. you have to be in good shape. theres no point in doing a cuircut.

you could split it up keep intensity high reps of 20-50. same as before try to get 300-500. its much harder then trying to bench 315 for 2 or what ever you bench.

                            M - Chest / Back, Abs
                            T - Cardio
                            W - Shoulders / Arms, Abs
                            Th - Cardio
Fr - Legs / Back, Abs
                            Sat - Cardio
Sun - Rest - or start all over.

u could put abs on cardio days if you want. mix up the routines.

somthing just doesnt add up. I think your full of bs about having enough size. what you want to do is get more size while leaning out. well we all want that LOL. I wouldnt try to do both b/c you'll accomplish neither unless you have to maintaine strength for a sport (football player, etc.)

                              whats the conditioning for?

behind all this other bs its sounds to me like you just want to lean up. just continue to train w w8ts and clean up your diet.
