  • Shoulder Presses - Waste of time?

Over the past few months I've taken shoulder presses completely out of my routine and I've seen no change as far as losing size. Question is, do you guys think shoulder presses are redundant?

If you think about it, the front delt is probably one of the most overworked muscles since it is activated in a lot of movements, especially benching. I personally combine shoulders and triceps with my bench day. I do throw in some lateral raises or wide grip upright rows, but it just seems like overkill to do presses after benching has already toasted them.

    Thoughts? Jokes? Flames?

I keep shoulders on a different day for that very reason. Shoulders get hammered on chest day and the shoulder girdle is a vulnerable joint. One should treat it with respect as any injury to it will seriously diminish your quality of life as you grow older. I still keep shoulder presses, although I believe front raises are a total waste of time.

Answer is; shoulder pressing creates depth, laterals etc create width.

Depends on the look you want or if you've pressed for 20 years and your shoulders are about fuckef like a number of older guys I knoe like dorian yates, you can probabky get away with just flyes etc due to everlasting density

My best bodypart(s) are my delts and my bread and butter exercise was shoulder presses.

this is sort of what I was talking about earlier. your delts would have been your best body part regardless of presses or not. genetics dictate this far more then training.

I agree with Op. Bench smashes front delts. I often thought the same thing about shoulder press being a waste of time.
