How can I strengthen my ankles?

What would loose tendons be other than a tear? You are probably over thinking this.
When you roll your ankle are you balanced and on the balls of your feet? Or is your heel dropping down and your weight is shifting to either the inner or outer step? Obviously the more mass displaced outside your center of balance the more your balance will be thrown off. As bouncer said, but not in that literal of a way, it's easier to roll your ankle the more top heavy you are.

I'll just be honest, I'm finding bjj hard.
And I keep getting injured and I think it's often because I'm not flexible enough and perhaps only strong in certain ways.
The dojo I go to is basically world class so on no Gi days your up against anyone and they don't take prisoners
Last time I was free sparring a guy same size as me but brown belt and when I got pulled from on my front into RNC but onto my back facing his stomach with his back on the floor my left foot went under With all our weight on my Foot which started heel side up if you know what I mean.
If my foot was more flexible it wouldn't have sprained

That's just the life of doing some sort of martial arts. Instead of your foot being more flexible more experience would have allowed you to instinctual get your foot out of the way to begin with. I highly doubt any more ankle strength or flexibility would have done a thing.

I think your seeing just how un-athletic "bodybuilders" really are. Just realize it's about looks, not about function. When you can look amazing and can also be functional is when it's really impressive.Originally posted by Mr I View PostI'll just be honest, I'm finding bjj hard.

Size don't mean shit in bij:thumb:flexibility is key, conditioning comes second. But technique trumps all:agreed:

struggle an pain feels better then just "existing". humans arent meant to just exist. we need the eye of the tiger. we need struggle.Originally posted by Mr I View PostNo doubt guys, I'm blowing hard after like 3 minutes grappling.
Honestly half the time I have no strategy in mind at the moment I'm just trying to survive. But I like the feeling of being a little beat up. Makes me feel alive somehow

Bro, all you have is time to think. But being a newbie in anything, takes time to build up to it....Bjj is like chess, it's about thinking and being strategic....keep at it man, you'll love it when you can start doing some better moves....practice on just flowing, even if you fuck up, just keep rolling.....this makes you get more comfortable with your own weight.Originally posted by Mr I View PostNo doubt guys, I'm blowing hard after like 3 minutes grappling.
