  • left shoulder problems

Ive been having some problems lately with my left shoulder. I did some damage to it in a bike accident but the physio and doc's at the time said there would be no issue and it would recover completely.

Its hard to put it into words but I'll try my best. Its mostly on chest and shoulder exercises I will be fine with lower weight but as soon as I go heavy for a set of 6 or 8 its like the joint seizes up and doesn't move correctly after 2 or 3. Its not just fatigue or it being weaker I physically cant make the correct movement with that arm.

For example dumbbell press for chest the right side is perfect and I'm trying to move the left in the same manner but it feels like the shoulder joint gives out and from the joint the arm moves to the side instead of straight up. It will take a few minutes rest and a lighter weight to get it moving right again.

I might need to video it because its really hard to explain.

But if it does make sense does anyone know whats going on and how to fix it? Its been happening the last 2 weeks and slowly driving me mad.

Hard to tell bro. Could try some rotator strengthening exercises to stabilize the joint.

To me it sounds a lot like the small muscles, the ones being used but not focused on, are weaker on that side.

Have you tried light weight to the point of being really fatigued and see if it does the same thing? The idea is trying to replicate the difficulty level at the lower weight.

(I had to make an edit, it was his labrum not a ligament he tore) Is there pain? It sounds similar to my buddy that tore the labrum in his shoulder, but there is a bit of pain that goes with the lack of mobility. The doctor told him strengthening the muscles around the torn ligament would postpone the need for surgery but he will need surgery sometime in the future. He has been doing low/long cycles of test and that seems to be helping him. Here is an article I found on it: http://www.hopkinsortho.org/labrum_tear.html

B - a mate of mine whoi s a physique coach said the same thing. I'm going to work in some rotator cuff exercises and keep weights low and see if that does anything.

TKD - light weight is fine no probs there could go all day. The problem is say when I go from warming up on 44lbs then say 66lbs is still fine but if i jump to 88lbs its when it happens.
