  • Shoulder excercize that cause injury

Saw this great video with Ric Drasin and Doug Brignole on shoulder physiology and which excercizes to avoid to prevent injury.

    https://youtu.be/SKIYPLt7wbk

Biggest thing I got from it was to skip the overhead presses. The shoulder wasn't evolved to do such a movement. Also avoiding palms down on front raises and a few others.

Being able to do this for the rest of my life without dealing with pain that I could have prevented as I age is important.

Of your goal is to avoid injury at all costs then fair play

But if you want to add deep muscle you're gonna have to press

DB press feels much better to me compared to barbell press.

Skip front raises altogether. Waste of time, as the front head of the delt gets hit a half dozen other ways. Stick to side and bent-over raises.

Nothing makes my delts burn like db presses; slow controlled negative and explode up.

At work. Will watch in the evening when I get home. I'm definitely interested in any information on shoulder health.

Youll probably like the video then. The excercizes you suggest are basically the ones that they recommend to hit all 3 heads without causing damage. More specifics are given as to range of motion etc.

Just keep in mind you have two people in the video with no shoulders, advising you on how to train shoulders

Lol they are old as dirt, of course they have no shoulders. Ric Drasin drew the design for the golds gym logo for crying out loud. I wouldn't expect them to have big shoulders when their wrinkly skin is hanging off their bones. Doesn't mean they don't know their shit.

As we all know, John Wooden was 5'7" and looked like a stiff breeze would knock him over, so he obviously knew nothing about coaching championship basketball.

And to add, when ric had shoulders, it's because he was doing all the basic stuff.

You can dress it how you like but if your training shoulders because you want big powerful delts, you have to do the same basic compound movements that everyone else has always done within reason.

And I can back this up. My delts are quite big and it's not coincidence that I can do sets with 155lb dumbells on shoulder press

And Ric has shoulder problems now like everyone else that does heavy movements against what the shoulder should do for extended periods of time.

                            Perhaps that's right

I guess you can't make an omelette without breaking some eggs

Saying that I've been lifting for 25 years and no issues here
