  • Body weight training, anyone do it?

So it's been almost a year since starting xfit and have to tell you, best shape I've ever been in my life. From being lean, being able to pace a 730mn mile for 4 miles or more, flexibility, etc...definitely very happy guy right here.

Now I've been able to master the muscle ups pretty good, I've got pistol squats down on each leg, fuckers are hard!!!!!

The new routine I've literally can't get enough of are the dragon flags, man I love those:thumb:I've got myself doing them in many variations.

So I'm slowly starting to do more and more body weight excises. The ones I'm trying to master is the flag pole. Anyone ever try these types of routines? I've definitely have grown away from the "bodybuilder" mentality or the "power lifter" routine. Funny thing is that I still can lift heavy, weird.

I lol now when I see the douche bag in the gym with fucking headphones bigger than their heads, a gallon of water, big as gym bag, etc....gtfo:rofl::rofl: no offense if this is you:D

These days people are starting to have the nice "fit/athletic/model" look. I remember when bouncer would post about it, certainly truth to it. I by no means am far from small, actually get quite a bit more attention now than before.

I might post some videos of this stuff, pretty neat. So has anyone ever tried this or by any chance incorporate them into your routine? Probably not but wanted to ask.

Interesting that you posted this now. Someone just posted a thread about it at another forum I frequent quite often. This guy is asking questions about it etc. He just posted an intro crossfit workout video over there.
More people than I thought are posting in his thread. It seems like there are some "closet x-fitters" around! LOL
The one thing I am seeing regularly expressed is the potential for injury doing it. Now since I have never done it and only seen videos of those doing it I would like to ask you your thoughts on that. Is there a higher potential for injury doing this crossfit thing?

My goals are in-between the 2 extremes. I never want to sacrifice my mid section but I want everything else to be bigger so I've been eating more cals and training heavier but still controlled.

God damn it I'm tired of you fellas calling me little fella. :D

Now what's this flag pole milarky you talk about. You sit on top of it? :D

SO many CrossFit gyms going up now. I have a lot of acquaintances that are into it. I think it looks like a good, hard workout, but I also think I'd be intimidated just joining one of their gyms by myself. Like I don't know wtf any of that stuff is, and some people are pretty hardcore. I dislike feeling out of my element and like I have no idea what is going on. :panic:

FB, your letting that shit hold you back. You mentioned something similar about when you joined the other gym how you just did cardio because the weights are intimidating or your so far behind or something. You are there for yourself, fuck what anyone else thinks and do your fucken thing!

I know exactly what everything in a traditional gym is used for though. Yeah, I feel wimpy compared to what I used to do, but I KNOW what to do. CrossFit is like a whole different beast. Go look in one. There's like a tire, a chain and a flag. Now go do your workout with those items.

Yea I get it. But even if you knew what they were for would you go? I just wish you would be a fitnessbrat again rather than just a brat. :D

I definitely would agree injury is high, hence why you only see(for the most part)very fit, athletic people doing body weight training. The xfit, not so much. It's usually people who need others around them for the motivation. Nothing wrong with that either, at least they're doing something about being fit. For many years I've done bjj(purple belt)and stopped it for a change of routine and mostly for mental health. I felt like just doing the typical bbing routine was and is just monotonous. These days everyone is doing xfit and quite honestly, those who don't stfu about it, are usually the ones who are posers. Many of my friends don't even know I do it because I just say I'm going to the gym, unlike these idiots who say; "hey man, go to the box today":panic::panic:I wanna slap their face when they ask me like that.

That's why you do the elements class to learn. That type of mentality seems weak. Why tell yourself that? Hell the reason I've joined is because I wanted THAT challenge, something I've never done and knowing I'd be pushed to my limits.

I get it. I just turned all of my goals and focus to education and dropped the gym completely. I need to find a healthy mix between the two. Or quit school.

My brand new LAFitness is open, so I don't have any excuses left. :whistle

Obviously if I've admitted it's intimidating, I know it's not the RIGHT mentality. Is that how you treat the "new" people at your gym? Be nice or STFU. :disagree:

I actually do treat them like this, but I'm nice about it like I was with you. I'm just simply telling it like it is, nothing to be alarmed about.

When anyone has this "eh not sure I can" kind of thought process, I actually encourage them to think the opposite. And if this offends anyone, then by all means it's their problem not mine. I'm just sick of people(many)being so negative or having a "no can do" attitude, that's all :) if it hit a nerve, then oops...wasn't my intent.

Now stfu and get that fat ass back in the gym.

Nah, it wasn't a nerve. For me I'm just an extremely shy person, so waltzing into a place where I am literally clueless is never something I'll likely do (alone). It really has nothing to do with a negative attitude. Maybe I'll grab a friend and give it a whirl sometime. :cheese:
