  • How Strong Are You? - Apples to Apples

We all have different body types so we really need to compare apples to apples. I suggest there are two measures that are closer to comparing relative strength than straight bench press. Of course, I like them because I think I compare fairly well on them: They are:

How many times can you bench your weight?

    &

What is this number if you apply a weight to height ratio to it?

    example:

    I am 6'0", 210lbs

I can bench my weight 35 times.

    35 reps / ( 210lbs / 72 inches ) = 12

Therefore, a guy who is 5'8" and 210 with the same 35 reps has a ratio score of 11.33 and is not as strong on a relative basis.

I know it seems technical but I think it works, let me know your stats.

I think the above math formula is a bit too much for the bros

        OK I will play.
        I am 73 in @ 230 can do it 27 times. = 8.6

I think anything beyond 15 reps comes down to training.

Just because someone can do 100 pushups doesnt mean he can bench 400lbs.

If you train for strength and stay in the 3-8 rep range your muscle endurance cannot compete with someone who does 12-20 reps.

            nice one

about this "strength indicator". well' it seems that it is rather evaluating your endurance strength than your max strength, right?

            i'm 5'7, 180 and i can lift my weight 42 times

but then again my actual max one rep is only 292.50

            therefore

292.50:180= 1.625, this is my max strength factor :D

over to you (yo wood, maybe you do better with this one)

            peace

That is way to complicated for me.

If you can do 2-3 reps with 315LBS. you are pretty strong, by most standards.

Thats my formula for us "slow learners"! :D

bUMP....doing your bodyweight is more of an endurance question.......bodyweight vs max lift is better

I agree that there is a difference between endurance strength and one rep max strength. My one rep max is 375 at 210lbs and seeing that I can do the 210lbs 35 times, I think my endurance strength is probably better than my one rep max. Makes my measure better for me of course...

375:210= 1.7857, that indicates that your max strength and your endurance strength are appr. at par...not bad, just keep working, big boy :p
