It all depends on where you are, downsouth you still have the backwoods bullshit of the KKK, up here you have the white collar assholes, on either side of the color line

Bottom line is that there is no such things a specific race being overly oppressed, it may seem that way here, but this is a small portion of what goes in the rest of the world

but yea I would have to say that, there are a lot of problems between whites and blacks, and the labeling and association that goes with it...but sometimes the label fits, there are true white trash pieces of shit, and there are true black pieces of shit, hispanic pieces of shit, asian pieces of shit and so on..its how you choose to represent yourself and your background, and some just love taking it to the extreme

Ive been chased out of a million neighborhoods for being white, Ive remember the last time, it was an "interracial" fight, and clear as day, Im gonna cut this white boy, who the fuck does he think he is being down here... and I got cut up...I dont hate the race, I hate the particulars of the race that make themselves seem the victim, when there is no such thing anymore

Fuck if anything, women have been the most segregated in the country from the day it was founded, and they arent flipping out as much as some do

I dunno, this country went to shit a looong time ago, and its just gonna continue to get worse

The black history month recognizes those who helped blacks become equals in this country.

Thats the way I look at it.
You guys need a history lesson I see.
        1. Chinese have been prejuded against and forced into slave labor during the 1800's. They were primarily used to build the 1st railroads into the West. They were also viewed as the lowest class and race. In fact there was an old law in Boston found on the books in the 1980s that stated: "It is unlawful to shoot a Chinaman from a Trolly car". Basically it's ok to shoot them as long as your not on a trolly.

        2. American Japanese during WW2 were all taken from their homes and businesses and placed in Guarded Camps until the end of the war. they were basically prisoners and lost all their possessions and livelyhoods. Segrigation at it's finest example.

Those are just 2 examples that come to mind.

As for prejudices,, that list is much larger. A few examples: Irish immigrants that came here after the great potato famon were only allowed to hold menial jobs. Menial, low class jobs in those days were fireman, and policemen. Prior to that they made up the majority of our US Calvery. Italians, Jews, both prejudiced against after flocking here during WWII. Those are only a few examples of hatred White America has shown those from other countries that now make up what is now THE GOOD OLD USA.

Let's not forget what we have done to the American Indians either. Don't believe all the movies portraying the Indians as the villians. They were NOT the Villians we were.

Oh and regarding Blacks. They suffered the worst by our hands and I give them credit for all they've done for this country. Even through all the lynchings, prejudices, violence in the South they still fought ALL of our Wars for us including, the Indian wars, civil war, WW1 and 2, Korea, Vietnam and so on. Here a black man is fighting for our country while his brother or sister is being hung outside a Babtist church in Alabama. Real nice.
So if black America wants Black History Month,, let em have it. they earned it!!!!
Oh and I"m white by the way not that it matters.

These days, there are people from all races and nationalities that are getting murdered, simply because there are fucked up people in the world doing evil things. There will always be extremists in every group of people. But mainstream society has definately accepted blacks and other minority groups from the past as equals these days. And there are laws that have been established because of this that give these groups equal rights just like everyone else. You can't realistically compare the few racist acts that are happening today to the mainstream racism that was occuring years ago. I truly believe that the more minority groups keep it fresh in everyone's mind, the more it will remain there and be a problem. It's a vicious cycle. It's kinda the same thing with Janet's titty, but on a much larger scale. The more people talk about it, the more people will be reminded of it and it will conjure up feelings of disbelief, disgust, excitement, horniness, or whatever feeling each person got from it. When it is finally not talked about and is out of the media, people will forget about it and she will just be sweet little janet again.

They have a saying "until you live in the ghetto, you will not understand the ghetto". It is not like on TV where they make it cool to live there. On my block, 80% of the people are using hard drugs. Ho's, crack, and just a bunch of grime. Kindness is weakness in that world. But you know what, it made me stronger, got really big and started extreme fighting, just to survive.

                Peace

Just as some whites use violence as an excuse, and hispanics, and asians. I am with you. To me we are all the same, HUMAN, some have experienced more bullshit than others. Did I personally experience the crap Irish immigrants had to put up with? NOPE. Have I experienced some bullshit because I am white? YES. A big bald white boy going to meet his black girlfriends family in Houston. Yeah that was a lot of fun for both of us. It's all these overzealous, asshole, shit heads in EVERY race that keep provoking the majority of the problems. It is sad that it is the way it is. All we can continue to do is openely and civily discuss and debate the issue. The more people realize that not all whites, blacks, hispanics, etc are racist assholes the sooner things will get better. Will it ever go away. No, but the majority of us can get along just fine without the rest of the assholes trying to bring everyone down.

Blacks also fought the Civil war......For the Confederacy......Then they wanted the flag removed from the South Carolina Capital. I think a governer lost his re-election.The first time an incumbent ever lost an election in SC

I happened upon this thread and read the comments and surely there are some people here in need of a history lesson. I am also put off by Black people
who come across as butt-kissers of white booty.

When African-Americans are speaking of slavery, we are speaking of the chattel slavery in which our forefathers and foremothers experienced in the Americas. We are not speaking of the slavery that occured elsewhere outside of America. Blacks were sold out by some of our own tribal leaders, who were led to believe that the New World would be a good one. Yes, and other Europeans kidnapped Africans for slavery. I see someone tried to exonerate whites of responsibility on the first or second page.

For one, Black History Month exists because it allows African-Americans to celebrate their African heritage and American History. Nothing wrong with that. Our History books sugar coats history, telling everything from a Eurocentric point of view therefore either ignoring.

Someone said that racism is an individual thing. It is not. It is more institutional/systemic.

Unlike other races/ethnic groups, African-Americans were the only group that didn't ask to come here. My ancestors were severed from their history, language, and culture--not allowed to practice it. Black people were taught to hate themselves and that self-hatred still exists. Those other groups were not cut off from their culture and history even though they caught Hell. Blacks were manumitted to view the world through the eyes of the Euorpean oppressor--embracing white as right and that Blackness was bad an in need of European indoctrination.

Although Blacks and Latinos are seen on TV and movies more, there is still an underrepresentation of people of color. And Asians and Middle Easterners are practically invisible. The roles for people of color are any of the following:

                                -limited
                                -stereotypical
                                -not in demand

If you don't where you come from you won't know where you're going and if you stand for nothing you will fall for anything. So many of our Black youth are in the gutter because they've made terrible individual choices but then environment can be factored in as well.

There was a time when it was illegal for Blacks to get and education out of white fear that Black people will take over. Blacks are doing well but we are still on the bottom of the totem pole.

                                Why did this racism exist?

It existed because America was envisioned as a "whites only" nation.
Even the so-called Great Emancipator, Abraham Lincoln was a bigot who believed America was a nation for white people. Plenty of the white abolitionists were not against slavery because they thoughtsalvery was wrong, but because they saw America as a white nation. To have Blacks meant their existence from generation to generation with an increase in population. Furthermore, many white men kept Black and bi-racial females as concubines and sex toys. The result was mixed babies which contributed to the Black population growth.

I am for Affirmative Action many people have been given the wrong definition of what it means. The media/public will tell whites that unqualified minorities are taking away from qualified whites. People of color are being told that AA is an insult to us as a means to keep us from getting ahead. The truth is white women have been the greatest beneficiaries of Affirmative Action while Blacks have benefitted the least. Other ethnic groups have benefitted from AA more than Blacks have. Going by the incorrect definition of AA, if it is wrong for Black people let's address white folks' AA called white skin privilege.

AA for people of color and women are meant for qualified people of color and women.

Conveniently, those factors are ignored and shows me that AA is okay for white women. It also goes to show the sense of entitlement held by many whites. The problem is that when you have visible minorities in a sea of whiteness, many whites see that as someone taking something from them. The bottom line is that without a racial hierarchy where people of color are on the bottom, whites wouldn't be on top. There is the fear of people of color being able to compete with whites.

If anyone thinks that in the last 30-43 years that Blacks have been treated as equals, you have got to be the biggest damn fools out there. Just because laws have changed on paper doesn't mean the hearts of men and women change.

I work in Corporate America in Labor Relations, hold a doctoral degree, and I witness the horrors and unfair practices
in which people of color, women, the elderly, and homosexuals face.

I am for Reparations because it was a promise that Lincoln made but the President succeeding him denied it. I don't want to see Reparations in the form of a check because all Blacks will do is spend it up elsewhere instead of building wealth for the Black community.
The Asian, Middle Eastern, Jewish, and European Immigrant, and Latino communities spend money with each other, having built up wealth for their own people. While I am for integration, to some degree it has hurt Blacks by giving way to individualism and throwing group self-interest out of the window, and depending on others. we should be doing some things for ourselves.

As for Japanese detainees during World War II, they got their Reparations in 1989.

I will get to interracial relationships later. I am not against them.

By the way, there are Native American and Latino Heritage and History Months.
I think there may be an Asian American History month as well.
